PROJECT DATA Brief description of organization Humanity Corps is a non-profit organization dedicated to (no more than 300 words) helping the poor in Ecuador become self-reliant through education, business development, and health services. Having witnessed the extreme poverty that exists in Ecuador, we desired to act, to do something to better the lives of the poor. Humanity Corps is a group united for a common purpose: to inspire, encourage and provide opportunities for the poor to elevate themselves out of poverty. Humanity Corps is a US 501c3 organization incorporated in the state of Arizona and is directed completely by a staff of volunteers. Humanity Corps was founded in 2003 and has recently undertaken our first large-scale project. To help the poorest of the poor in Gauyaquil become self-reliant, we are offering scholarships for children to attend school, who would not be able to otherwise. Education is vitally important to break the cycle of poverty. However, in Ecuador there is limited government funding and support of education. All schools, including public schools, require students to pay tuition, buy uniforms and provide all their school supplies. Many children cannot afford these costs and are therefore denied an education. Through this program, the children will receive an education, their first and most necessary step towards self-sufficiency. In this project, Humanity Corps is partnering with Fundación de Ayuda Humanitaria (FAHUM), an Ecuadorina non-governmental organization that serves the most poverty- stricken areas of Guayaquil. Through our financial support, FAHUM will administer the project among the children and their families in Ecuador. FAHUM will provide administrative and financial reports containing project administration, students’ academic progress, activities, and proof of expenses. FAHUM relies on professional staff as well as volunteers. What will the donation support? Educational scholarships for children ages 5-13
2 Friends of Ecuador, Donation Application, Revised 6/9/2004 Total Budget The cost for the program is $134 per student per year. (please attach detailed budget) This includes for each student:

How did you find out about Through a friend Friends of Ecuador? Description of program. Humanity Corps is partnering with FAHUM in a program Why should Friends of Ecuador to help children in Guayaquil, Ecuador achieve an education support this program? despite many unfavorable circumstances. We will assist by providing children with scholarships that will fund tuition, uniforms and school supplies. Through these scholarships FAHUM will additionally offer tutoring, counseling and workshops for students and their families. In 2005 we are providing the opportunity for 150 children in the poorest areas of Guayaquil to go to school when they would no be able to otherwise. This program gives the children the funding as well as the guidance they need to succeed in their studies. The objectives of the program are to: Award 150 scholarships to students between ages 5 and 13 suffering from extreme poverty in the marginal, urban areas of Guayaquil. Provide, through the scholarship: tuition, uniforms, and school supplies. Track students’ progress. Conduct workshops on personal development. Educate students’ families about the direct and indirect benefits of the program to strengthen family relationships within the home. Re-enroll students who have dropped out of school. Our goal is to continue this program year after year, to give children the opportunity to receive a high school diploma, or equivalent. Not all of the families that apply with FAHUM for scholarships are accepted, only those living in the most extreme situations. This program reaches the poorest of the poor in Guayaquil. Each family is interviewed and visited in their home by a Social Worker. The requirements for a child to be able to participate in the program are those whose household monthly income is less than $200.00 per month and have more than three children living in the home, families
3 Friends of Ecuador, Donation Application, Revised 6/9/2004 supported by a single mother, children supported by their grandmother because their parents have abandoned them, or orphans. Many of our donors sponsor one or more children. Friends of Ecuador can support this program by sponsoring a few of these children. Giving these children the opportunity to receive an education will offer them a new future with unlimited possibilities.
The information contained in this document is, to the best of my knowledge, true.
