Guidelines for Preparing a Faculty Job Description - Regular Title Series

A fully detailed job description identifies the major responsibilities of the position, the required and preferred qualifications, as well as any pertinent background for the position.

The job description should include the following information:

Title: Regular Title Faculty: (Faculty Designation)

Title Series: Regular Title Series

Faculty Rank: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor

Type of Appointment: Tenure-Track

Annual Appointment Designation: 12-month (CY) appointment/Full-time appointment

Qualifications Indicate the qualifications, such as: *M.D. or D.O. degree, PhD or equivalent *Board Eligible or Board Certified or equivalent in specialty *Must obtain Kentucky medical licensure within 30 days of appointment and maintenance of full medical licensure in the State of Kentucky throughout the term of the appointment Specific Requirements Such as: * Function as full-time faculty member in the ------department. *Participate on departmental activities such as faculty meetings, grand rounds, conferences, teaching conferences, etc. *Maintain clinical privileges as an active member of the medical staff of the University Hospital and, if desired, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center Percentage of Time and Effort (DOE) List percentage of time that position will complete duties in areas such as: Teaching, Research/Scholarly Activity, Patient Care, Administrative, Professional Development Example: Teaching 5% Research/Scholarly Activity (MUST BE AT LEAST) 75% Patient Care 15% Administration/Professional Development 5% 100%

Assistant Professor-Potential for excellence in scholarship and research as demonstrated by training, publications, studies, reviews or other venues in the discipline as attested to by colleagues, mentors and peers at the local level.

Associate Professor--Demonstrates high scholarly achievements of productive involvement or participation in scholarly activities through publications, studies, reviews or other venues in the discipline as attested by colleagues, mentors or peers at the regional or national level.

Professor--Excellence in research and scholarly activities through original publications, studies, reviews and/or other venues in the discipline as attested to by colleagues, mentors, or peers at the national or international level.

NOTE: Appointment or promotion to the rank of Professor is recognition of attainment rather than length of service.
