2004 International Conference for Physical Educators Exercise and Sports Psychology Symposium

Theme

Psychological Approaches for Athletic Performance Enhancement. Athletic performance relies on many different factors such as skill level, physical ability, genetic make-up, nutrition, athletic training and so on. But, one of the crucial factors related to athletic performance is athletes’ psychological control before or during competition. However, many athletes are not cognizant of their lack of psychological control as a major factor detrimental to their athletic performance. Some athletes do recognize the importance of optimal psychological state positively relating to their sports performance, but these athletes may not have required knowledge of how to psychologically prepare themselves for achieving peak performance. As a result, psychological barrier becomes a significant factor detrimental to these athletes’ performance in competition. Thus, the objective of the Sport Psychology Symposium is to provide athletes, coaches and practitioners with the specific psychological approaches for helping athletes enhance their athletic performance in competition.
