Water Module: Investigation 1 Study Guide
Vocabulary water – a liquid earth material property – characteristic of a material; something you can observe, such as shape, color, temperature, and smell absorb – when a material soaks up another; For example water is absorbed into some materials. bead – to make a bubble; to hold its shape; For example, water beads up on some surfaces. surface tension – skin-like surface on water (and other liquids) that pulls it together into the smallest possible area dome – the shape of a drop of water on a flat surface slope – a slanted surface flow – the movement of a liquid over a surface
Turn to back Facts to remember…
Water has properties that we can observe…
-- Water is clear in color.
-- Water beads up on some materials.
-- Water is absorbed by other materials.
-- Water has surface tension. Adding soap to the water breaks the surface tension.
-- Water forms a dome on flat surfaces.
-- The steeper the slope, the faster the water flows.
