High School Math Summit

MILWAUKEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS DIVISION OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

High School Math Summit All 8th grade mathematics and all high school mathematics teachers are encouraged to attend this important event. This conference will provide each school a springboard for planning the 2007-08 mathematics goals. This conference will also bring together teachers and administrators as the Milwaukee Mathematics Partnership presents the game plan to aggressively tackle our student achievement problems in high school.

Who: High School and 8th Grade Mathematics Teachers

When: Saturday, June 2, 2007

Time: 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Teachers will be compensated at Where: Bradley Tech High School their hourly rate. 700 South 4th Street

Sessions: You will choose 4 sessions that you would like to attend. 1. Assessment Feedback 2. Effective Use of Think Link Benchmarks 3. 8th – 9th Grade Assessment Pilot 4. Instructional Strategies 5. ALEKS 6. New Math Teachers 7. Special Education & Math 8. Stats Short Course 9. Geometry Short Course 10.Smart Board 11. Algebra and Geometry Connections to Upper Level Mathematics 12. AP Math Courses

_____ Instructional Strategies Math Instructional Coaches will share teaching strategies used this year (cooperative groups, think aloud, questioning)

_____ ALEKS Explanation and demonstration of the ALEKS program

_____New Math Teachers Meet with first year math teachers to discuss first year teaching challenges

_____Special Education & Math Strategies for special education students in the math classroom

_____Stats Short Course Discussion and collaboration of supplemental materials and resources to address the areas of non-negotiables

_____Geometry Short Course Discussion and collaboration of supplemental materials and resources to address the areas of non-negotiables

_____Smart Board Demonstration of Smart Board for classroom use

_____Algebra and Geometry Connections to Upper Level Mathematics Hank Kepner and Kevin McLeod will facilitate this session on algebra/geometry connections

______AP Math Courses Overview of developing and implementing an AP Calculus and/or AP Stats course
