Dear Parents,
On May 18, 2007, Governor Perry signed House Bill 121 into law. House Bill 121 mandates that all school districts in Texas adopt and implement Dating Violence Policies and Procedures which includes adopting the definition of dating violence, safety planning, enforcement of protective orders, school based alternatives to protective orders, training for teachers and administrators and support staff, counseling for affected students and awareness education for all High School and recommends awareness for Jr. High students and parents/guardians.
Family Ties, Family Resource Services is a local Children’s Crisis and Advocacy Center that is funded to provide this training by the Office of the Governor through our D.R.I.V.E. Program (Developing, Respect, Integrity, Vision and Empathy). The following topics will be addressed with 8th grade students:
Teen Dating Violence Modeling Respectful Behaviors Sexual Harassment & Violence Building Healthy Dating Relationships Internet Dangers How to find Help for yourself or a friend Overview of current Laws Consequences of Dating and Sexual Violence
Family Ties, Family Resource Services will be at the Stem Academy on January 26, 2015 to provide a 45 minute small group presentation regarding the topics listed above. Parents are encouraged to participate in providing a safe atmosphere for their children. If you choose to have your child NOT participate in this program, we ask that you return this letter to your child's teacher. This letter should ONLY be returned if you choose to opt out of the program. ____ I do NOT wish for my child to participate in the D.R.I.V.E. Program.
