Activity Description

Find out about some of the farming based chores boys would have helped with after school. Groups will be split into two to complete leaf clearing and potato riddling activities. They will then come together in the corn field to have a go at bird scaring.

Activity Description

Groups will begin the day with the boys and girls helping with different tasks before signing a servant contract. After working hard all morning there’s the fair to enjoy in the afternoon. Try your luck on the Coconut Shy, Bat the Rat and many more.

Activity Description

Taking place in the museum’s White Cottage the students will be introduced to the home before being split into smaller groups and allocated the different tasks they would have been expected to help with. There are beds to make, floors to sweep, and rugs waiting to be beaten. All chores use appropriate equipment from the past and the groups will be moved round so the students get to help with a number of jobs.

Open fire in the building Activity leader & Activity leader will talk to participants the group about safety on entering the building. Groups to be supervised in here at all times. Fire guard to be in place.

Activity Description

After all their hard work the group will toast their own bread over the fire before enjoying the tasty treat.

Learn how to make rag rugs and then begin work on your own small sample.

School Lesson Name: Emma Colclough (School Room in WWII Village Hall) Date: January 2017

Activity Description

This session takes place in the museum’s Victorian school room where groups will be greeted by the school Ma’am or Master who will be leading the day’s lessons. Expect inspections of cleanliness, drills to assess fitness, and handwriting practice.

Potential Hazards People who are at risk Controls

Activity Description

Students will have the chance to work in our fully functional wash house next to White Cottage. Water needs to be collected from the pump outside, wash boards and dolly pegs need to be mastered and after rinsing, the clothes need to be squeezed through a mangle before being put out to dry.
