Review 1 Manners can be a code for some people. For people, this is a code of behavior to guide the “proper” actions for a situation. For a manners survey, the dramaturgical theory becomes a theory of great interest. The dramaturgical theory states that people have two selves. One self is the one that is shown to the world. This self is believed to be each person’s ideal of their self and is shown to world as an act. However, there is a second self. The second self is the true self of who each person is at their core.
This theory becomes incredibly applicable to the present paper on mannerly behavior.
On dates, especially first dates, people put forth their “best” self for good impressions.
While this self may appear to be fitting for the atmosphere, the true feelings and belief of the individual are hidden, creating a possible conflict. During this time, people are trying to please those around them by playing the “audience.” By pleasing the audience, individuals may exhibit behavior deemed mannerly in particular situations. For example, on a date in which a man is being introduced to his partner’s parents, the man may exhibit chivalrous and polite behavior in front of the parents. Yet the man may leave the date only to display behavior that would be seen as uncouth and discourteous to those around him. Another example of this could be the evidence that on a first date with a new partner, a woman may be more likely to give thanks for any chivalrous behavior that is shown towards her and state that it is not necessary. However, the woman may be one to expect the mannerly behavior at all times, not just on the occasion of being in public.
Using the dramaturgical theory, this behavior is explained by the show that is put on by the person to dissuade any negative feelings. From the application of this theory, it can be studied in this paper, if the what?
Sorry but you are on the wrong track here. You did not list any article you are reviewing. You have no bibliography. I cannot tell what you are doing in the section above. Is this a summary, evaluation, or what? As near as I can tell, it is all summary.
But you should write it like a summary rather than a discussion.
Review 2 Continuing in study with the dramaturgical theory can be linked to similar points found in the conflict theory that was developed by Collins. While the dramaturgical theory states the formation of two selves, the center of Collins’ conflict theory is based in a principle of a self-constructed subjective world. Collins theorizes that everyone creates their own world; from the created world a power over others is generated. The power over others is used to force conformity in society. It could be derived from this that the power creates conformity to follow rules of manners.
Awkward sentence Through this theory, it can be studied why or why not mannerly behavior is present in an individual’s self-constructed world. It could be asked if the individual finds an importance in having mannerly behavior. It could be questioned whether the person who may exhibit mannerly behavior in their subjective would is performing this behavior out of their own desire or an expectance of the behavior. So, from this, the person would have to decipher whether their behavior is truly theirs or a form of conformity to the surrounding society. The conformity would allow many people to feel more comfortable in their everyday environments. So, it would need to be studied whether more see a desire for mannerly behavior in their everyday activities. For example, it would be considered whether people in their self-constructive worlds more often find the use of manners such as please and thank you as a necessity to be included in their world. Therefore this theory is applicable to whether people feel manners still exist. From time, a connection could be made to whether people find would include manners in their self-constructive world. All of the above was summary?
Review 3 The Collins conflict theory could then be connected to the article
“Rudeness rising: crassness is increasing in all regions of America” by Larry Witham.
Through the conflict theory, conformity from a power over others is created. The conformity to expect manners in certain situations is elaborated on in the “Rudeness rising.” In this article, it is stated that 79% of people believe that the lack of manners has become an increasing problem in American society. The article continues that many felt in the past there was more courteous behavior. Many still stated that since 9/11 they seemed to have noticed friendly behavior in other people. So with this information, it can be looked into whether college students have a similar view on the findings of the article.
It could be seen that college students see the findings in another way. Since they findings would be probable to convey that the unmannerly behavior that is seen to becoming a problem, some college students would see this as offensive to them or their upbringing and the importance of manners. Also, it could be examined on what some consider manners to include and whether they believe their manners to be exceptional or ordinary.
Still, many could be questioned on their upbringing. It could be supposed that the actions that some do not consider manners are from the fact that those particular people were not educated in the manners that many others had come to expect in the past. It would be concluded that certain chivalrous behavior has been outdated, such as standing when a woman approaches a man. Summary?
Review 4 The article, “Rudeness rising”, could then be connected into the interview article from Stephen Goode to ? professor Forni at Johns Hopkins’ on the exploration of the rules of respect. “Rudeness rising” can be linked with professor
Forni’s interview by linking use a different word here the findings of the professor in a course on civility. Professor Forni had stated that it was a surprise to find that many who had enrolled in the class were disappointed that they would not be learning the rules of etiquette. The professor found this even more surprising in that the reason many wanted this field of learning as they were not taught these behaviors in their family. From the research of this article, it has been found that the meaning of civility and good manners has expanded over the passing half century. With the new definition of manners, there has come under immense criticism. Forni has said with the severe extent of liberalism manners dissipate conflict which is seen as good for liberals. There continues to be argument from many see manners as a bad thing. It is believed by some that manners, in any form, is a form of deceitfulness and that in children, manners will inhibit the inventiveness of the child. However, there are those that still associate mannerly behavior towards someone as having respect for that person. Therefore, it could be studied from this whether or not college students suppose these beliefs to be true. Is it possible college students, who are still considered young adults in society, would see manners as a negative pressure on society? Could it be that manners today are simply seen as a form of respect to those around the college student? While studying, the view on each of these questions, it would need to be seen this is passive voice. Stay in active voicehow the students views themselves in regards to if they have manners. Still, ultimately, the student would decide what is considered to mannerly or rude.
Review 5 The interview with professor Forni can be associated with Emile
Durkheim’s anomie strain theory. Is this linkage to other works? While Forni states the change in manners over time, the anomie theory would then be implemented. What?
Applicable? From the anomie strain theory, it would be surmised that since manners have begun to fade from society, the norm has faded along with it. With the absence of the norm, a negative impact would occur in society leading to the change in behavior of many and a lack of identity in some. Since normlessness would now exist, crime and suicide rates would climb, which is a proven statistic over the past fifty years. Feeling nothing to cling to and a lack of parallelism acceptance and understanding, some would commit suicide to escape. The study to be drawn from this would be if crime and manners correlate. While it may appear that they do, it could be a coincidental association between the two. Past studies would have to be reviewed to see if over time many have thought the level of mannerly behavior to have decreased, while crime rates have increased. So what could be drawn from Durkheim’s theory? It could be perceived that a portion of society seems to cope better in an environment of courteousness to have respect\. The other portion of society may be better suited for an atmosphere of unmannerly behavior to allow equality in the society in place of the respect. Review 6
Through the anomie theory, the theory of the looking glass self can be used. If someone was to be feeling passive. Use active voice: felt a sense of normlessness in society, a view on their self would be applicable. Again, if someone was to use manners frequently in their everyday life only then to feel that these manners were nothing, falsifying their norm, a normlessness feeling would occurs. Through the looking glass self, the view a person has on themselves could be transferred into why they use manners.
A person could be asked why they feel the need for manners. Then, the answer would be derived that the person sees the necessity or lack thereof for manners because of their view on chivalrous behavior within themselves.
All of these references can be are associated with into why individuals do or do not feel the necessity for manners. On the most basic level, every person would need to asked what they define as manners, whether they believe they have manners, and whether there should be manners in society.
I have no new comments other than what I made above. You have many grammar problems. You should get an editor to proof read for you or I fear you will not meet the minimum college requirements. I would advise that you add in the subtitles: summary, evaluation, linkage, & importance to help you structure your writing.
