Etext Production Checklist

eTEXT PRODUCTION CHECKLIST

This checklist is designed to guide you through the various steps of the production process. While the Wiki provides more detailed information for each step, this document serves as a “gut check” to ensure that the production process runs smoothly.

PREPARING YOUR eTEXT FILES FOR PRODUCTION Before uploading your files to the eText Content Manager FTP, make sure that you verify that all of the below steps have been taken.  Have you created an eText ISBN and is the product in PPS? Refer to this documentation on how to properly set up: http://cmsna.pearson.com/groups/etext/wiki/52da2/Production__Higher_Ed__Setting_Up_Your_Product.html

 Do you have 3 covers in the required format (thumbnail, main cover, and navigation bar)?  Do you want your table of contents basket to be listed differently than what is in the TOC of the print book? If so, you’ll need to supply us with a TOC spreadsheet: http://cmsna.pearson.com/groups/etext/wiki/c50b9/Production__Higher_Ed__Spreadsheet_Workflow.html

 Will you be adding hot-spotted media (including audio, videos or other media), a glossary or custom baskets? If so, spreadsheets for any of the aforementioned will need to be created. http://cmsna.pearson.com/groups/etext/wiki/c50b9/Production__Higher_Ed__Spreadsheet_Workflow.html

UPLOADING YOUR FILES TO THE eTEXT FTP

 Once ALL of the above steps have been completed, you should be ready to upload your files to the eText Content Manager FTP! If you do not have access credentials, contact your Production Manager. The Content Manager FTP site address is: ftp://ftp.ebookcm.pearsoncmg.com//home/ebookcmftp_prod/upload/highered/.

Here are some quick tips on FTP uploading: o The parent folder is named with the eBook+ ISBN, followed by the author, title, edition (abbreviated as necessary (for example, “0205762794_ballengercw3e”). Inside the parent folder are the following subfolders/files:

 Info folder (includes high-resolution, full-size PDF of the text cover image; a copy of the automated response from the online eBook+ File Conversion Request form, saved as a plain text [.TXT] or [.RTF]; and the filled-in eBook file turnover checklist.  Ingest folder that includes: . Assets folder (includes the cover, thumbnail and navigation bar images; and if required, the glossary, basket, and/or the custom hotspots spreadsheet) . PDF folder (includes the high-resolution print PDFs)  Source Files folder that includes: . XML-EBOOK-PLUS folder . LOGS folder from the FQA process

 AFTER you have uploaded the folder to our eText Content Manager FTP, you must fill out the Conversion Request Form to start production. http://cmsna.pearson.com/groups/etext/wiki/b3bca/File_Conversion_Request_Form.html

ARE YOU LINKING YOUR eTEXT TO AN LMS?

 Will you need Deep Links to specific eText pages? If so, click here to create them: http://cmsna.pearson.com/groups/etext/wiki/f13bc/Creating_Deeplinks.html

GOING LIVE! BEFORE you publish your eText, make sure all of the below steps have been taken. When you have completed all of the steps, fill out the Promotion Request Form to publish your eText: http://cmsna.pearson.com/groups/etext/wiki/28a52/Promotion_Request_Form.html

 Have you chosen an integration scenario?

 Has your eText been set up in SMS and been approved? Do you have the appropriate SMS module ID(s) for the integration scenario(s) you have chosen?  Has the First Review been approved (linking stage-cross refs, external media, custom baskets etc)?

 If you are linking your eText to an LMS, have you added the eText link or Deep Links to the LMS? Please note that the URL prefix for each link should start with view.ebookplus NOT auth.ebookplus as auth.ebookplus is the unpublished book server.

 Do you have your Book ID and Global Book ID (these IDs can be found in the Review Notification email that you received and in the Higher Ed Production Status Report, updated every Friday. http://cmsna.pearson.com/groups/etext/wiki/b6ff1/Higher_Ed_Production_Status_Report.html
