M. Hames 24 organized the church in 1916; and 25 26 Whereas, as a part of the paternalistic services to its employees, 27 the mill company provided a building to give the workers and 28 residents of the mill village a place to worship; and 29 30 Whereas, in 1936 when Reverend Clyde T. Bryant was the pastor 31 of Fountain Inn Wesleyan, the company of Woodside Cotton Mill 32 deeded the building and property to the Wesleyan Methodist 33 Church, and through mergers with several other denominations, 34 the official name of the denomination eventually changed to The 35 Wesleyan Church in 1968; and 36 37 Whereas, although the building has undergone numerous changes 38 during its one hundred years, the church has maintained its mission 39 to exalt Jesus Christ by evangelizing the lost, discipling believers, 40 equipping the Church, and ministering to the community; and 41

[1251] 2 1 Whereas, under the leadership of the twentyone pastors who have 2 served throughout the church’s one hundred years, many people 3 have come to know the Lord, a goal which the congregation hopes 4 to maintain throughout its second century; and 5 6 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate celebrate the 7 centennial anniversary of ministry and leadership that the 8 congregants of Fountain Inn Wesleyan Church have brought to 9 their community and for the faithful legacy of the congregation. 10 Now, therefore, 11 12 Be it resolved by the Senate: 13 14 That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, 15 recognize and honor Fountain Inn Wesleyan Church of Greenville 16 County and congratulate the congregation and pastor for one 17 hundred years of continuous ministry in the community. 18 19 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 20 Reverend Bob Broome, pastor of Fountain Inn Wesleyan Church. 21 XX 22
