1. DC French Film festival is coming up this week! Info on the films can be found at http://cestchic.org/films.html a. Students can go on their own and get extra credit in their class if they do a short wirte-up about the film (check with your professor) b. We would like to get a group together and carpool/take the metro together for at least on of the films i. Aline will go around to French classes this week to see what films are most popular and then email everyone with details ii. Probably one of the weekend films (Fri/Sat/Sun) will be best for everyone’s schedule

2. Looking for what to do with a French Major? : Coffee with Professor Fyfe a. Professor Fyfe will be meeting with any students interested in learning about potential jobs and career paths using French on Tuesday October 30 at 2pm in Jazzman’s Café (bottom floor JC) b. Things that she will talk about: certification options, connections with the French Embassy to get a job in Paris or in another location, formatting a French CV/Resume, and French volunteer opportunities

3. Conversation Tables a. Starting this week- Aline Sandouk will be holding conversation/tutoring sessions every Tuesday from 9-10 am in Thompson 213 and Thursday from 1-2 in the Student Activities office; Come and practice your French, get to know other French speaking/French majors at Mason, improve your French skills, and your grade! All levels welcome

4. Study Abroad Opportunities a. Both the Spring Paris study abroad and the Winter Morocco programs have a few spaces left; the deadlines have passed, but those interested may still be able to get in if they contact the Center for Global Education as soon as possible

5. Upcoming Events throughout the year: a. Conference on Francophonie in DC in March- see Professor Fyfe for details b. International Education Week at Mason: the week before Thanksgiving break i. There will be an international poetry reading event. This would be a great opportunity to practice your French, get familiar with some great poetry, and earn extra credit in your French class! Just pick out a French/Francophone poem (there is no length requirement) find a translation or translate it yourself, and sign up. ii. A sign up for the poetry readings will come out by email within the next week c. GMU International Week- first week in April i. This is a great event for all the different cultural clubs at Mason to show what they are about ii. The language department will be holding several plays- the Spanish and Japanese departments are already signed up, and there is room for the French club to perform a 20 minute play 1. Professor Fyfe is willing to organize this; contact her if you are interested or have ideas 2. The play choice and commitment needs to be made by November 27

6. Crepe Sales a. The sales total profit was $65—a good start to the club’s fundraising efforts! b. A lot of people came up to the stand in the JC and showed interest in the club; it was a great way to get our name out there and we had several new members sign up
