Australian Academic Research Library Network (AARLIN). Barbara Paton. (Paper appended) Recommendation to CAUL: That CAUL continue to support and promote the achievements of the AARLIN project. 515. Australian Digital Theses Program. Alex Byrne, CONZUL. A meeting of the Policy Reference Group was held 31 July 2002. A meeting of the Technical Group is scheduled for September 17. (Paper appended) 516. University Library Australia. Alison Ransome. All CAUL libraries responded to the request for feedback on the program after its first year of operation. The Review Committee met on 7 August. (Paper appended) 517. Library Services for People with Disabilities. Sue McKnight. Scholarly Communication. 518. Scholarly Communication Working Group. Madeleine McPherson Best Practice. 519. Best Practice Working Group. Felicity McGregor. (Paper appended) Recommendations to CAUL: Website 1. CAUL to consider value of site and agree allocation of funding for maintenance 2. CAUL members to make concerted effort to add information to site in next 6 months 3. Review at next meeting 4. Invest in web designer to improve impact of page and ease of searching (may wish to include redesign of home page for same reason as this is the public face of CAUL. Despite excellence and comprehensiveness of information on the site, a few comments about ease of navigation have been received).

Document Delivery 5. Fund development of new CAUL DD Indicator for benchmarking purposes (ie keep it simple; use other methods to survey institution-specific issues) Rodski 6. Investigate option for access to web-site in years when not completing survey (DC) 7. Institute simple calendar year subscription cycle which takes account of less frequent surveys (DC) 8. Existing participants continue to test Rodski for at least two cycles in order to gauge utility. Provide feedback.

(Papers (3) appended) Recommendations to CAUL: That CAUL approve the draft Terms of Reference including the slogan “Cheap, useful, fairly valid.” 521. Key Performance Indicators & e-Metrics. CONZUL. 522. Information Literacy. A report on the Australian & New Zealand Institute of Information Literacy is included with the paper. (Paper appended) a) Information Literacy Assessment Research Project. Margaret Appleton (Paper appended) b) Information Literacy Standards. The standards are under review. Linda Luther Advocacy, Marketing, Communication. 523. Copyright. Eve Woodberry. (Paper appended) Recommendation to CAUL: It is recommended that CAUL continue to support the position of Copyright Advisor using the current model of a per institutions contribution in 2003. a) Copyright Working Group. Eve Woodberry. 524. CAUL Reports. The CAUL Report for 2001 was published in June, 2002, circulated to all universities, DEST and the AVCC, and made available on the CAUL web site. 525. Government Inquiries. c) Higher Education at the Crossroads. Minister for Education Science & Training. CAUL provided a submission on 28 June 2002. CAUL’s submission was drafted by Madeleine McPherson and Helen Hayes. i) Striving for quality: teaching, learning and scholarship. This is one of the seven discussion papers prepared under the broader review of higher education. CAUL’s response was prepared by Helen Hayes. d) Inquiry into the Role of Libraries in the Online Environment. Senate Environment, Communications, Information Technology and the Arts References Committee. CAUL’s response was prepared by Madeleine McPherson. 526.
