SEAGATE DEMONSTRATES INDUSTRY’S FIRST SERIAL ATTACHED SCSI STORAGE SOLUTIONS WITH HP

HANOVER, Germany. – Mar.12, 2003 – Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) is making its way into the enterprise arena as Seagate today begins demonstrating its SAS technology with HP at CeBIT. The event marks the first time that products using SAS are being shown in live functional demonstrations. Serial Attached SCSI is the SCSI growth path to greater connectivity, lower cost scalability, and higher throughput performance. It is this combination of robust benefits that has made SCSI the enterprise I/O interface choice for over 20 years.

The demonstration uses a fully operational SAS Cheetah disc drive attached to a computer. The computer allows program scripts to be sent to a Packet generator that in turn sends them over a SAS interface to an X73 SAS drive. The traffic on the interface passes through a Protocol Analyzer pod and can be viewed on the computer. The SAS demonstration can be viewed at CeBIT within HP’s booth #XXXX.

“Serial Attached SCSI offers clear benefits in the enterprise for performance-oriented systems as well as for the highest capacity storage environments, but it also is an attractive choice to enable easier integration as well as lower infrastructure costs,” said XX, XX of XX at HP. “HP is aggressively working toward implementing Seagate’s SAS technology for our customers, as they continue to require greater storage subsystem bandwidth as well as the performance to serve an ever increasing amount of data moving through their networks.”

"HP continues to ensure that its leading server and storage solutions will enable them to keep up with the information demands of today and tomorrow and Seagate is aligned with that same customer-centric focus," stated Brian Dexheimer, Seagate executive vice president, Worldwide Sales, Marketing and Customer Service. “SAS is an exciting migration path for SCSI and one that will allow companies to benefit from sharing richer content and information across their systems and allow increased efficiency.”
