Position Title: Youth Sports Volunteer Reports to: Sports Coordinator Revisiton Date: 6/28/16

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Sports Coordinator and in accordance with Association policies, the Youth Sports Volunteer is responsible for assisting the Sports Coordinator in leading a great experience for the youth that are playing Y sports. The volunteer is also responsible for the safety of all participants and in creating a fun, safe, healthy environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assist in managing youth & adult sports programs. 2. Assist in the supervision of the participant’s to ensure appropriate development occurs in a fun, healthy and safe environment. 3. To maintain safety among our players, it is not permitted for coaches to scrimmage with players. Coaches can maintain a presence on the field and demonstrate and work in with drills but cannot participate in a full-speed scrimmage with the players. 4. Assist with officiating, coaching, and score keeping. 5. Assist in providing instruction at practices and camps. 6. Ensures that daily care of members is a key priority. 7. Assist in setting up and taking down of equipment before and after games, programs, events, and classes. 8. Responsible for strict adherence to all policies and procedures related to safety and conduct rules and other regulations.

Provisions This is an unpaid volunteer position, which exists to assist staff and to provide supplemental support for the Y’s programs. This position is undertaken freely on the part of the volunteer with no payment or expectation of payment of salaries, wages, compensation or other types of benefits. The Y may from time to time alter or terminate volunteer positions and programs. Volunteer status may be changed or discontinued by the Y-Administration at any time and for any reason, including a volunteer’s failure to comply with District ordinances, policies and direction governing conduct in the performance of volunteer duties on Y premises.

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Experience working with youth, teens, and adults. 2. Understanding and comprehensive knowledge of youth sports activities is preferred. 3. Creativity, initiative, flexibility, eagerness to seek out and involve others and genuine concern for today’s youth are essential. 4. Lives YMCA values 5. Actively values diversity 6.
