Corpus Christi Pastoral Council Minutes November 15, 2016

CALL TO ORDER: at 7:00 p.m. by Bob McDonald who chaired this meeting.

OPENING PRAYER: Led by Deacon George.

ROLL CALL: Members Present: Chris Brown, Jennifer Derickson, Rob Hilgenbrink, Karen Hopkins, Deb Kuth, Bob McDonald, Judi McDonald, Myron Thomas, Laurie Wiley Members Excused: Dave Handel, Bill Krouse, Wes Nolden Ex-Officio Members Present: Deacon George Mills, Sarah Ayran, Michelle Stroot, Ex-Officio Members Excused: Msgr. Jim Margason, Neil Jansen, Dennis Whelan

Wes Nolden has resigned from the parish council.

APPROVAL of the MINUTES: The minutes were approved as written.

REPORTS:

Financial: No meeting.

Liturgical: (1) Ongoing business a. Children’s Liturgy of the Word – issues with noise and seating resolved by using a lighter weight table and changing the chairs. b. RCIA – no one in the program as present. c. Minister training – splitting training into three segments works well. d. New Layout for Eucharistic Ministers i. The same number of ministers are needed at 9:30am and 6:00pm Masses. ii. No problems with the new layout. (2) New business a. A missionary priest will fill in for Father Nov. 19 & 20. b. Thanksgiving i. Father Grogan for 7pm Mass. ii. Advertise Vigil Mass at St. Clare and St. Nicholas. c. Advent i. Little blue books are here. ii. Advent Angels. iii. Leftover pewter ornaments will be in the back of church, they are free for the taking. iv. Immaculate Conception – Thurs., Dec. 8. Holy day of obligation. v. Penance Service – Mon., Dec. 12th at 7pm. vi. Hanging of the Greens – Dec 19th at 6pm. vii. Parish Council Christmas Party – Tues., Dec 20th, 6:30pm – Social time, 7:00pm dinner.

Pastoral and Social: Block Party – 50 RSVPs only 35 attended. For the future the Block Party will be saved for special events. Building and Maintenance: Thanks to those who came for the workday on Oct. 15th.

Youth Ministry: (1) Youth Group a. Christmas Party – Dec 18th. b. No meeting Jan 1st. (2) 5th/6th Grade Events – a successful game night on Nov. 4th. (3) Operation Christmas Child – boxes to be filled Nov 20th. (4) Luke 18 – 8th graders retreat is Jan 13th – 15th. (5) Trivia Night – Jan. 28th at 7pm.

Religious Education: (1) PSR off Dec 25th and Jan 1st. (2) Children’s Liturgy of the Word – see Liturgical report. (3) Ladies Night Out – raised $1100 for PSR program. (4) First Reconciliation Parent’s Meeting – Sun., Feb, 5th at 10:30am. (5) First Communion – Sat., Apr. 22nd at 5pm. (6) Confirmation a. Held at St. Clare Church. b. Rehearsal – Sat., May 13th at 10am. c. Celebration – Mon., May 15th at 7pm.

Communications: (1) Hill Top Run a. Dec 10th. b. Raffle tickets for sale. c. Donations needed for raffle. (2) Website rewritten – events are being updated. (3) Facebook page getting fair amount of activity. (4) Myron will ask Ellen to run an ad in bulletin to “like us on facebook.”

Outreach Committee: No report.

Partnership: The Bishop has reviewed our proposal. He will meet with the three pastors.

OLD BUSINESS: Chicken Dinner: a. One of the fryers needs replacing. The committee is looking into buying two larger fryers with the OK from the parish and finance councils. b. Filling buckets of chicken slows down the dining room line. A decision was made to eliminate the buckets because the amount of chicken to fill the buckets is not cost effective. c. Those wishing carry-outs will go through the same line as the diners. d. One or two more volunteers are needed to learn to fry.

NEW BUSINESS: (1) Raffle – Kelly Waller will run the raffle.. (2) Dinner Dance – To be held Mar. 25th, the band is willing to play again. (3) New ideas: a. A casino night. b. Mouse races. c. Reverse raffle. (4) Round the table: a. Jenn – Melissa Faust has resigned her position at St. Clare School. b. Michelle: i. Winter’s Aire is Dec. 3rd. ii. Volunteers needed to decorate the night before at 6pm. iii. O’Fallon K.C. to hold a 4 The Parishes Trivia contest Feb 24th. Parish teams needed. c. Sarah – Father Jim met with the principal of Shiloh grade school. All churches in Shiloh are asked to support a needy family for Christmas. d. NEXT MEETING: January 17, 2017, 7:00 pm.
