Introduction The Nez Perce - Clearwater National Forest will soon be filling a GS-7 Permamnent Seasonal Biological Science Technician position at the Moose Creek Ranger District. The position is to provide technical expertise and input in support of the noxious weed control program. Please fill out the form with this announcement.

About the Position Series/Grade: GS-0404-07 Title: Biological Science Technician (Invasive Plants) Tour of Duty: The tour of duty will be a Permanent Seasonal appointment 18 pay peroids each year. Duty Location: Kooskia, ID. ( Fenn Ranger Station ) Housing: Government housing is not available.

Major Duties: Performs a variety of routine and complex tasks to prevent and control noxious weeds in the Forest involving a full range of integrated weed management techniques, e.g., biological, cultural, mechanical, chemical, and prevention.

Schedules, organizes, and conducts field surveys to identify, document, and map noxious weed infestations. Collects data and enters data into databases; generates reports from databases; and assembles information for development of noxious weed control project plans. Compiles, manages, and interprets data collected for project analysis. Links tabular data to locational parameters using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and produces maps of noxious weed infestations using GPS location technology. Participates in weed control activities which include; herbicide treatments using both motorized (ATV’s & UTV’s) and non-motorized equipment, and independently working along Forest roads and trails as well as off-road control efforts ( including wilderness ). Keeps daily records and maps of all pesticide applications, and monitors effectiveness.

Assists in preparing and presenting noxious weed informational and/or educational materials to employees, partners, volunteers, and contractors to improve early detection of new weed infestations. Serves as the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) on a variety of noxious weed control projects. Ensures that all weed control methods comply with Federal and State Laws, along with Forest Service policy. In addition, the incumbent will also be expected to work alone, and obtain a State Herbicide Applicator’s License. The incumbent must obtain the license within 120 days of the initial appointment to the position.

The duty station is located in Idaho County, Idaho. Established by the Washington Territorial Legislature in 1862, Idaho County is the largest county in Idaho, covering 8503 square miles. It is located in the north- central region of Idaho, through which the Clearwater, Salmon and Snake rivers flow. The nearest town from the duty station is Kooskia (pop. 900) and is approximately 27 miles. The town of Grangeville (pop. 3,600) is 55 miles and is well served for most amenities.

Qualification Requirements: To qualify for a GS-07 you must have had 1 year of graduate level education ( 18 semester/27 quarter hours ) in any combination of scientific or technical courses such as biology, botany, or range management OR 1 year equivalent to at least GS-6 OR a combination of education and experience.
