“Worthing faced stiff competition in rother league round 2 ” ======

On Saturday 14th June 2014, 29 Worthing swimmers headed to Godalming for the 2nd round of this Year’s Rother League. There is a new structure for Rother League in 2014, with a new, East / West Division. The 2nd Gala was the West Division in a relay format involving Worthing, Godalming, Wey Valley, Farnham and Leatherhead.

Worthing made a solid start in the 2 swimmer relays, with mixed results in the first 16 races, including 5 race wins placing us 2nd overall, just 2 points ahead of Godalming in 3rd. This Gala is a mix of relays, with some being 2 swimmers in each race as well as traditional 4 swimmer relays.

The 1st wave of 4 swimmer relays saw Worthing drop to 3rd place, just 5 points behind Godalming, with leaders Leatherhead some way ahead. Godalming and Worthing were swapping places regularly throughout the evening and just 4 races later, we were back in 2nd place.

There are only 2 individual races in this gala, with the under 14’s swimming individual medley’s. Holly Stoner was 1st in the girls race picking up an award for her efforts.

With 11 races to go, Worthing were still in 2nd place, but with Godalming just 7 points behind.

The final results were as follows : 1st Leatherhead 203, 2nd Godalming 167, 3rd Worthing 160, 4th Wey Valley 137, 5th Farnham 87
