Chapter 3, Title 56 of the 1976 Code is amended by 21 adding: 22 23 “Article 42 24 25 Bronze Star Recipients Special License Plates 26 27 Section 56-3-4210. (A) The department may issue a permanent 28 special motor vehicle license plate to a recipient of the Bronze Star 29 for use on a private passenger motor vehicle. The biennial fee for 30 this special license plate is the same as the fee provided in Article 31 5, Chapter 3 of this title, and not more than two license plates may 32 be issued to a person. The application for this special license plate 33 must include proof that the applicant is a recipient of the Bronze 34 Star. 35 (B) This special license plate must be of the same size as a 36 regular motor vehicle license plate upon which must be imprinted 37 the distinctive Bronze Star insignia with numbers and designs 38 determined by the department. 39 (C) Before the Department of Public Safety produces and 40 distributes a special license plate pursuant to this section, it must 41 receive four hundred prepaid applications for the special license 42 plate or a deposit of four thousand dollars from the individual or

1 [3808] 1 1 organization seeking issuance of the license plate. If a deposit of 2 four thousand dollars is made by an individual or organization 3 pursuant to this section, the department must refund the four 4 thousand dollars once an equivalent amount of license plate fees is 5 collected for that organization’s license plate. If the equivalent 6 amount is not collected within four years of the first issuance of 7 the license plate, the department shall retain the deposit. 8 (D) If the department receives less than three hundred biennial 9 applications and renewals for this special license plate, it may not 10 produce additional special license plates in that series. However, 11 the department shall continue to issue special license plates of that 12 series until the existing inventory is exhausted.” 13 14 SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the 15 Governor. 16 ----XX---- 17
