Set date/venue/agenda for next meeting.

Welcome

Ali (Houghton) and Sophie (Brookside) chaired the meeting in Jan’s absence. Co-coordinators introduced themselves.

Data Headlines

Ali explained that she felt it was important all coordinators are aware of what data is available and use it in order to move forward. Most coordinators are using Target Tracker at present. Data was discussed and coordinators fed back the following to the group:  Houghton – When analysing the GL assessment results it was felt that they did not reflect their target tracker judgement. Other schools agreed with this and also mentioned that the GL assessment was too easy.  Brookside – Positive progress for KS2 and progress for KS1 was in line with LA. Focus for this year is girls reasoning and problem solving skills. Moderation will also be a focus point.

1  Fernvale – Issue with girls not using the skills they have learnt in the lesson to answer questions (not confident). Due to SAT’s results, a few pupils are doing catch-up maths sessions in order to encourage accelerated progress. Teachers are using TT more to find gaps and put interventions in place quickly.  Brocks Hill – Girls not achieving as well as boys and seem to lack confidence. They are targeting Mum’s and asking them to speak positively.  Gartree – Although a third of the Y6 children did not meet standards in maths, they were only missing it by a mark or two. Girls and reasoning needs to be a focus this year.  Glenmere – Used GL Assessments for the first time. Focus point is girls reasoning. Intervention groups put in place and staff have been on a training session to help with understanding.  Glenfield – Not many gaps. Boys outperform girls. Reasoning is an issue for both girls and boys (White Rose resources are helpful). PP children did well thanks to the support put in place.  All Saints – Focus is on improving reasoning as although pupils can get the correct answer to a question, they are unable to explain how. Using White Rose resources.  Langmoor – Maths is a strength in school and the girls’ results were not an issue this year although there were not many girls working at greater depth. EAL students did well and the KS1 SAT’s results were strong. Gaps appeared in PP pupils however, this may be due to a large number of them having SEN’s. Will focus on EYFS shape, space and measure.  Highcliffe – Good results, closed gender gap. Will be focusing on PP children and Y5 as there are a large number of SEN pupils. Mastery is well underway.  Riverside – Tracking has been a little up and down. SAT’s results were close to national expectations. PP students will be a priority and teachers are going to work hard on gathering evidence to show pupils working at greater depth.  Woodland grange – TT results looked low but this was probably due to incorrect imputing. Reflecting on Y2 SAT’s results, Y3 will be a focus. PP money has been spent on 1:1’s and interventions. Y5 will also be a focus as they are not a strong year.  Launde – Used GL Assessments and these showed high results. Some teachers are struggling with the idea of mastery and are moving on too soon. Will use White Rose and Oxford Owl resources to help. Priority this year is on rapid recall, number bonds and times tables. Launde will also focus on intervention/parent workshops/website info/maths newsletter.  Little Hill – Boys outperformed girls. Focus will be on creating a balance between gap filling and differentiation.  Manor – Positive SAT’s results. 78% of Y6 pupils who received interventions, achieved the expected standard. Being strict with

2 interventions did prove difficult but the results showed that they were well worth doing.  St. Luke’s – Strong Y2 and the rest of the school is on track. Focus will be on SEN/PP/WB. St Luke’s has now switched from Abacus to White Rose.

Maths Network Project

It has been decided at the Heads Strategic Planning meeting that a resource for parents needs to be created to help them support their children with maths. The resource needs to be linked to the new curriculum and the calculations policy. The group agreed that the resource should be a visual booklet that is not too long and show the methods used in school. It needs to include practical examples and links to other useful resources/websites.

Sophie, Ali and Hetal are going to meet and put together a resource for Y2. Ali will then email this out to the coordinators so that they can work together to put something similar together for the other year groups. These will be discussed at the next meeting. The list of schools that are meeting to write the parent support packs are as follow: Year 1 Emma (Langmoor) Alison (Lionheart) Year 2 Ali (Houghton) Sophie(Brookside) Hetal (Launde) Year 3 Kate (All Saints) Sukhpreet (St Lukes) Year 4 Catrin (Fernvale) Katie (Woodland Grange) Year 5 Carolyn (Riverside) Tash (Glenmere) Charlie (St.Lukes) Sam (Little Hill) Anjli (Brocks Hill) Year 6 Laura (Highcliffe) Clare (Manor) Suki (Glenfield) Jane (Gartree)

How is maths being used in other subjects?

3 Coordinators agreed that Maths can always be incorporated into topic work. Other cross-curricular links include:  Roman numerals – History  Statistics – Science NCETM magazine and wild.maths.org are useful resources to help with cross- curricular ideas.

Maths Hub News

Maths Hub bulletin is very useful as it advertises many free activities/training sessions that are available throughout the year. Teach meets also take place at the end of the year for everyone to showcase what they have done.

Catrin did a course on effective CPD last year that was advertised through the hub. She told the group that it consisted of a one-day training course followed by a project in school. Catrin can now go into other schools and help with CPD.

(Bulletin attached)

TRG – If applying for ‘Mastery’ training, ensure you sell yourself as the selection process is similar to a tick-box interview system. Funding for supply has been available in the past however this may not continue.

Ali is now going into schools to help with Mastery and is also visiting Shanghai to observe for two weeks. Ali will feedback to the group at the next meeting. Teachers from Shanghai are visiting Houghton in January to do some showcase lessons.

Next Meeting – Wednesday 1 March 2017, 9.15am at Launde Primary School.

Next Meetings Agenda  Apologies  Data analysis – Bring a summary of either KS1, KS2 or GL questions to feedback on the areas of maths that the children found more difficult.  SAT’s paper – Discussion on what paper/questions to give the current Y5’s (preparation for school’s taking on Y6 next year).  Maths Network Policy – Parent support resource  Feedback from Shanghai  Text books – Please bring examples  AOB  Set date/venue
