BSI Project Application for Summer and Fall 2015 Projects

San Jose City College

Basic Skills Initiative (BSI) Project Funding Request (2015-16)

Applications forms must be submitted electronically to [email protected]. Receipt confirmation will be sent to applicant. (This proposal is only valid for the Summer and Fall 2015.)

San Jose City College receives funding from the Chancellor’s Office through the Basic Skills Initiative. The College in turn supports projects that will assist Basic Skills and ESL students to be more successful

Process

The electronic application needs to be submitted to the BSI Committee Chair. Next, the BSI Committee reviews and votes on it using a rubric. Applicants will be invited to attend the respective meeting to answer any questions regarding the proposal. Applicants will be notified via email.

Criteria and Guidelines

The project proposal must:

o Align with the College’s Strategic Goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). o http://www.sjcc.edu/PresidentOffice/Documents/Strategic%20Goals%20Outline,%20July %2013,%202012.pdf o Demonstrate how the intervention will increase successful outcomes for Basic Skills and/or ESL students,

o Include outcomes and demonstrate how the identified outcomes will be assessed,

o Be related to at least one of the “Effective Practices” of the statewide “Basic Skills Initiative listed at http://www.cccbsi.org/instructional-practices.

Timeline

Application Period: April 8 to May 5, 2015

Applicant(s) will be required to make a 10 minute presentation to the Basic Skills Committee on Thursday, May 7th between 3:00-5:00 pm in GE118. Presentation time appointment will be emailed by the BSI Committee Chair.

Funding applicants will be informed by May 29, 2015 of the BSI Committee decision.

Funded Projects Requirements

If funded, you and the participants of the project will be required to submit a report detailing the following:

(a) how your outcomes were met or present data that supports your outcomes,

(b) types of assessments conducted,

(c) results of your assessments,

(d) lessons learned from your results,

1 Rev 11/2014; 4/2015 (e) application of findings in relation to SJCC’s Strategic Goals .

Due dates for final reports are 30 days after the project has ended.

NOTE: Failure to comply with this requirement will exclude project applicants from applying for BSI project funding for the following academic year.

This proposal and final report will be posted on the BSI Committee webpage.

In addition, your findings must be shared with the college at large. This sharing can be done at a Professional Development Day or at the Professional Development Center. Please be prepared to explain how this will be accomplished in presentation.
