IEEE Council to Honor Dr. Robert Brayton, Kaufman Award Winner, at DAC Dr. Robert K. Brayton, 2007 winner of the Phil Kaufman Award for Distinguished Contributions to EDA, will be honored with a luncheon sponsored by the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation during the 45th Design Automation Conference (DAC). The lunch, which is open to all DAC attendees on a first-come, first-served basis, will be held Tuesday, June 10, from 12 to 2 p.m. in Room #303AB at the Anaheim Convention Center. Brayton, Cadence distinguished professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of California at Berkeley, will deliver a talk highlighting his career and the challenges he experienced. Dr. Alex Shubat Named Chief Operating Officer of Virage Logic Virage Logic has appointed Dr. Alex Shubat to its newly created position of chief operating officer (COO). Shubat, Virage Logic’s co-founder, previously served as the company’s chief technical officer (CTO). The company stated that he has been the driving force behind its innovation in physical IP as well as the establishment of its technology team. Ian Walsh Appointed VP of Business Development for Toric Toric Ltd. has named Ian Walsh VP of business development. Walsh brings extensive experience in licensing semiconductor technology and communications software to the global semiconductor and OEM markets. He also is experienced in building and managing international sales and support channels. Formerly, Walsh was CEO of Paris- based MnD Semiconductors and founder and CEO of DIVA Communications Technology Ltd. Stephen M. Donovan Becomes VP of Worldwide Sales for SiliconBlue SiliconBlue announced that Stephen M. Donovan, former vice president of worldwide sales at Lattice Semiconductor, has become its VP of worldwide sales. Donovan will be responsible for building a worldwide sales and distribution team and managing all activities related to sales and field-based customer support. Prior to his 18+ years at Lattice, Donovan served as the director of sales for AMD and as the country sales manager for MMI Japan. He also held sales positions at NCR Corp. and Sperry Univac.

Gary J. Johnson Joins Duolog to Lead Sales and Marketing Duolog Technologies has named Gary J. Johnson as the company’s senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. Johnson brings more than 25 years of experience as a senior executive for leading Silicon Valley technology companies. He has held positions including CEO and president, executive vice president of sales and marketing, and vice president of operations. Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Michigan State University.

Mike Splain Named Executive VP of Sun’s Microelectronics Group Sun Microsystems Inc. named Mike Splain executive vice president of the Microelectronics Group. A Sun fellow, Splain is a 20-year company veteran. In this added role, he will lead all aspects of microelectronics technology development and business operations. Richard Kapusta Becomes Actel’s VP of Marketing and Business Development Actel Corp. appointed Richard Kapusta as its new vice president of marketing and business development. He will drive efforts for the company’s low-power FPGAs as well as the mixed-signal Fusion programmable system chips (PSCs). Guillaume d’Eyssautier to Serve on GSA’s Board of Directors Guillaume d’Eyssautier, president and CEO of picoChip, will serve on the GSA board of directors. In addition, he will continue to serve on GSA’s Europe, Middle East, and Africa Leadership Council (EMEA). Educated in France, d’Eyssautier joined picoChip from Cadence Design Systems. Karen Pieper Named Accellera Technical Committee Chair Accellera, the EDA standards organization, named Karen Pieper as its new technical committee chair. Pieper is currently director of synthesis at Tabula. In 2005, she was a co-recipient of Accellera’s Technical Excellence Award. Pieper has a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Rice University and a PhD in computer science from Stanford University.

Byron Milstead Appointed Lattice’s Corporate VP and General Counsel Lattice Semiconductor named Byron Milstead corporate vice president and general counsel. He was previously senior vice president and general counsel for Credence Systems Corp. Milstead has a degree from Reed College and a law degree from the University of Utah.

Ray Bryant Named Chairman of the Board for Power.org Power.org, which develops and promotes the Power Architecture technology, has named Ray Bryant to be chairman of its board. Bryant is the director of games and power solutions within the Microelectronics Brand in IBM’s Systems and Technology Group. He has extensive international and industry experience. Teuvo Kohonen to Receive 2008 IEEE Frank Rosenblatt Award The IEEE named Teuvo Kohonen as the recipient of the IEEE Frank Rosenblatt Award for contributions to the field of artificial neural networks and the development of data- analysis and organizational methods. One of his best-known accomplishments, the self- organizing map (SOM), is a data-analysis method that is widely used for clustering problems and data exploration. He is a professor at Helsinki University of Technology, Espoo, Finland. Kohonen received an MS and a doctorate in engineering from Helsinki University of Technology. He holds honorary doctorates from Universitat Dortmnund, Germany; Abo Akademi, Finland; and the University of York, England.

Michael Paczan Joins VaST as Chief Technical Officer VaST announced that Michael Paczan is its new chief technical officer (CTO). Paczan comes to VaST from IBM, where he was most recently CTO for Power.org. He holds an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin - The Red McCombs School of Business. Paczan also holds a BS in electrical engineering from the United States Naval Academy.
