Create Your Own Myth 100 points

GUIDELINES : 1. Your story must involve at least 1 of each a Greek god / goddesses, a Greek mythical creatures / monster, and your created character. It may contain other gods, goddesses, mythical creatures, or monsters as well. (20 points) 2. Your story must explain some an explanation why something happens, such as a natural phenomenon (a weather event: tornado, earthquake, ice storm…). (20 points) 3. Your story must have a clear beginning, middle, and end. (20 points) 4. Your story should clearly show that you know something about Greek mythology. Include details about the Olympian gods and goddesses that show you know their powers, symbols and personalities. (20 points) 5. Be original and creative, while following all the directions. (20 points)

Here are some ideas to get you thinking:  Where did the Rocky Mountains come from?  Where did the Mississippi River come from?  What made the North and/or South Pole(s)?  Why is Earth the third planet from the sun?  Why is it dark at night?  What is in the middle of the earth?

GREEK MYTHOLOGY PROJECT IDEAS: Below are ideas for projects on the Greek mythology unit we are studying. Any of these suggestions may be done without prior approval, but if you select a project that is not on the list, you must see me for approval. Your project will be graded on the amount of knowledge you present, the creativity of your project, and all the mechanics of good writing.

1. Construct a physical model of your myth.

2. (Group of 3-4) Write a script for a play of your myth and perform it in class. The performers should dress in appropriate costume and provide props for the play.

3. Draw and color a comic strip about your myth and tell his story through art. Your comic strip must have a minimum of 10 frames and a sentence or dialogue for each frame.

4. Create an original myth. Design your "character" and plan his/her story. Write the story in a booklet or blank book, illustrating the story with original drawings or clip art that is appropriate. Be prepared to read your myth to the class.

5. Create a newspaper that the Greeks gods might have read. You will need to include popular sections just like a real newspaper: sports, world news, local news, entertainment, comics, advice column, etc. Make sure that the contents of your newspaper reflect all of your knowledge of Greek mythology. 12. Setting: Give details about the setting of your story. Remember that setting includes not only time and place, but also environmental details.
