How to get a high GPA?

Strategies are needed if you want to get a high GPA. Here are three methods that I want to share with you and they are all simple and useful. By using these strategies, my GPA rose for 0.9 points in a year time.

Firstly, attending all classes as well as listening carefully in the class is the basic criteria you should do in order to get a high GPA. If you don’t attend one lecture or one tutorial but just reading the lecture note or the text book by your own, you may find many difficulties and cannot fully understand all the materials. In addition, the lecturers and the tutors will give you some additional information such as extra examples in the class and these examples will usually be examined. If you miss the class, you just miss the points in the exam.

Secondly, do preparations as well as revisions before and after classes. For me, doing revision is more important and more efficient than preparation as it takes much time on preparations than in revisions in order to understand the materials that you haven’t learnt before. In order to get a high GPA, you cannot just rely on the study period to do revisions. I usually spend at least one day per week to do a brief revision for each course. Brief revision means understanding the ideas and theories that was taught in the classes for that particular week. If I find any problems, I will ask my friends or the lecturers immediately. Do not accumulate your problems until the study period; otherwise, you will have no incentive to study at all.

Lastly, forming study group with my friends is another strategy that I usually used. If you do revisions on your own, you may miss some important points easily. Discussing and arguing with your friends will sometimes stimulate and refresh your memory so that you will have a higher efficiency and remember the materials easily. However, you should set up some rules for your study group. For example, discussion on one particular topic can only last for 15 minutes. Don’t spend too much time on discussion, otherwise, you will find that you nearly study nothing at the end. Everyone has their own study methods and strategies, mine may not suit you. But I just want to remind you that “No pain, no gain!” If you don’t put your effort, you never get a high GPA.
