On ______is hiking the four pass loop circumnavigating the classic Maroon Bells located approximately 8.8 miles west of Aspen, Colorado. The trip is anticipated to be of moderate difficulty due to altitude; this is world class backpacking trip for its beauty and route elegance. If you have not been on a true backpacking trip, you will need to consider your gear and route.

Water is expected at camps but it never to be considered certain, especially in a dry year. Each person will be responsible for their own food, tent and equipment. This is a full backpack trip in a beautiful sub- alpine environment of the Maroon Bells, a couple of Colorado's peaks over 14,000 feet. These peaks are some of the most familiar profiles in the world.

Trailhead Directions - Maroon Lake Trailhead From Aspen, CO, take Maroon Creek Road (CR 13) from the west end of Aspen and continue 8.8 miles to the trailhead parking lot.

SCHEDULE Tuesday Day 1, (2.8 Miles) 12:00 pm arrive Maroon Lake Trailhead and begin hike 2:00 pm arrive west side of Carter Lake and make camp and High Tea, dinner, check in for the night 10:00 pm Lights out Wednesday Day 2, (7.5 Miles, heavy day) 7:00 am up and about, breakfast, make ready for hike over West Maroon Pass and Frigid Air Pass. 12:00 pm Lunch on the trail/camp 4:00 pm Set up Camp in Fravert Basin, High tea 5:00 pm Dinner cook in camp, check in for the night 10:00 pm Lights out Thursday Day 3, (6.2 Miles). 7:00 up and about, breakfast, make ready for hike over Trail Rider Pass. 12:00 Lunch on the trail/camp 4:00 Set up Camp at Snowmass Lake, High tea 5:00 Dinner cook in camp, check in for the night 10:00 Lights out Friday Day 4, (7 Miles). 6:00 Up and about, morning camp fire, breakfast, pack up and make ready to move out. 7:00 begin hike to cars over Buckskin Pass. 12:00 arrive cars and congratulate ourselves on how cool we are.

WEATHER (expected) Likely to be dry and in the 80 degrees. But, it isn’t sure; be prepared for 30 degrees and rain or snow. This is Colorado and it's never summer in the mountains. WHAT TO TAKE, see site check list on website.

REMEMBER, backpacking teaches you to take care of yourself in a wilderness setting and to enjoy it. If you have a history of carsickness, don’t even think about puking in your drivers car.
