Using an Adam-6000 Module with Labview

Using an Adam-5000/6000 TCP module with Labview

There are two ways to use an ADAM-5000/6000 TCP series modules in Labview – Modbus/TCP OPC or ActiveX

Modbus/TCP OPC Method

This method uses the Advantech Modbus/TCP OPC Server

1) Configure the Modbus/TCP OPC server (Adam-5000TCP shown, but it’s the same for an Adam-6000) 2) Create a Numeric indicator in Labview and then connect it to the Modbus/TCP OPC server. 3) Select the Modbus/TCP OPC server that you want to connect to and then Browse to the data (tag). 4) Select the Tag from your Modbus/TCP OPC server. 5) Attach the Tag to the Numeric control. 6) Run the VI and notice the Modbus data is updated in the Numeric control. ActiveX Method

This method uses the Advantech AdamTCPX library which must be installed on the computer.

1) Add an ActiveX Container to your VI as shown below. 2) R-Click in the ActiveX Container and then select “Insert ActiveX Object”. 3) Select the ADAMTCP Control. 4) The ADAMTCP control should appear in your Block Diagram view.

Load the Adam5000TCP_DIO.vi example for reference on how to configure the ADAMTCP control. This example will work with Adam-6000 modules with very little or no changes.
