Job Announcements 21 March 2018 NTSB: Independently Advancing Transportation Safety:

This position is located in the Office of Research and Engineering, Office of the Director. The position serves as a subject matter expert reviewing and providing medical opinions regarding medical records and related medical information gathered during the conduct of the NTSB's transportation accident investigations and safety studies.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a physician in any specialty with some clinical experience who has extensive knowledge and experience in areas such as toxicology; clinical and forensic pathology; fitness for duty determinations, research methodology; injury analysis; and using medical literature to provide evidence-based support for medical conclusions. In addition, the candidate must possess expertise in communicating complex medical issues in plain language, writing technical reports, and have the skills to develop and present educational programs dealing with medical issues in an accident investigation. Finally, the ideal candidate must be available to respond to transportation accidents, anywhere across the United States to investigate medical and injury issues related to transportation accidents. Qualifications Basic Requirements

DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

GRADUATE TRAINING: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have completed residency training in at least one specialty recognized by the American Medical Association, (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

LICENSURE: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

CERTIFICATION: Candidates must have attained Board Certification in a medical specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE: In addition to the above requirements, 5 year of directly applicable qualifying experience is required. Qualifying experience is defined as: (1) interpreting toxicology, autopsy, and other medical data to evaluate impairment; (2) effectively communicating technical medical information in both verbal and written form to the public and; (3) evaluating injury mechanisms and injury causation based on medical records, radiology reports and imaging, and autopsy reports OR developing and completing technical medical reports and presentations for medical audiences. AMAS Staff Physician, ALPA Aeromedical Advisor/HIMS Program Manager:

Scope of Work: Aerospace medicine consultant providing advocacy for pilots and air traffic controllers. Assists pilot and controller client base with medical certification and qualification issues. Conducts activities in a manner that assures consistently high quality service results and client satisfaction while assuring aviation safety. In addition to staff physician duties, the successful candidate may be selected to fulfill a union consulting role working with AMAS's largest contract client. This position requires temporary relocation to the AMAS office located in Centennial, Colorado for a period of 4-6 months for training on handling medical certification case management duties. Once trained, the position can be performed from a remote location provided connectivity is available to support both accessing a remote working environment and use of a VoIP phone.

Staff Physician Duties:

• Acts as liaison between clients and the FAA Aeromedical Certification Division, Federal Air Surgeon and the FAA Regions, assisting clients with medical certification issues. • Serves as pilot/controller advocate, providing ethical and courteous communication when dealing with clients and ensuring they are fully informed. • Follows established company policies, procedures, and FAA protocols in order to deliver service to clients. • Provides occupational medicine consultation to leadership and headquarters staff in support of the various AMAS service contracts. • Prepares and presents briefings on aeromedically relevant topics for contract clients, pilot organizations, conventions and/or seminars. • Serves as an Independent Medical Sponsor for client base, to include on-site meeting attendance as required and maintains currency in FAA required HIMS training. • May perform on-call physician duties after normal business hours as assigned, including monitoring email and voicemail communications, and responding to clients per company protocol. • Contributes to company Aeromedical Newsletter, company website and other client publications. • Participates as an active member of the Clinical Services Staff and Quality Assurance Program. • Serves as a mentor for Resident physicians and new staff physicians as needed. • Participates in company staff meetings. • Represents the Company at conferences and events as needed. Qualifications: • Must hold medical licensure in either the state of Colorado or home state if working remotely • Primary care board certification required • Aerospace Medicine certification considered a plus • Senior AME experience and HIMS training considered a plus • Aviation experience and recency considered a plus • Longevity – 10+ years availability when assuming union aeromedical advisor role • Strong capability to work independently and as a team member within the context of a shared strategic vision • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Strong interpersonal skills, to support interaction with client base and leadership, company leadership and support staff • Ability to utilize internet, computer and email programs for delivery of services • Willingness to travel - requires 25-30 days of travel annually

Compensation – Salary range $145,000 to $165,000 - depending on qualifications and experience.

Aerospace Medicine Neurology and Research Physician: WHASC, Lackland AFB, TX (Temporary alternate work locations may be assigned, as circumstances dictate, by the Contracting Officer Representative). The position is in San Antonio at JBSA but works and reports up to USAFSAM/FHO. The work performed is for a Flight Medicine Physician who is a Neurologist with experience in Hypobarics, researching the effects the oxygen systems used by pilots, scuba divers, firefighters, etc. have upon the brain Neurologist Support Requirements: · Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited university; · Possess an active, unrestricted state medical license to practice medicine; · Able to be fully credentialed to practice aerospace neurology by the local credentialing body. Training in, and expert knowledge of neurology, with at least five-years of experience in the practice of military clinical aerospace neurology and experience with evaluations for decompression illness. · Primary board certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties or a recognized specialty within Osteopathic Medicine. · Board certification in neurology is required. · Previous experience as a flight medicine physician is also desirable. · Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory. · Continuing education (CME) hours IAW applicable state requirements as required. · Possess professional staff clinical privileges for the practice of neurology issued by the 59MDW and the San Antonio Military Medical Center, in accordance with the 59MDW credentials department process, within 1 month after the award. · Complete required human and animal research training and certification required by the 711 HPW/USAFSAM and 59MDW in order to serve as an associate as an associate or principal investigator. · Research experience in neurology or aerospace neurology. · Highly desirable is previous presentations of research work at national or international meetings and/or publications in peer reviewed medical journals. ……………………………………………………………………………………

Flight Medicine Physician: Scott AFB, IL The flight medicine physician shall provide health care to beneficiaries assigned to the Flight Medicine Clinic, Occupational Health Clinic, or other civilian Flight Medicine physician positions as defined by the MTF. These tasks include performing primary care and occupational health clinician duties and the associated administrative tasks. Care shall include but not be limited to continuing, comprehensive health maintenance and provision of medical care, including preventive medicine, behavioral health, occupational health, and community health. The civilian Flight Medicine physician may become the primary care manager (PCM) for a panel of patients. As a PCM, the flight medicine physician will be the primary person responsible for the management of the health and wellness of his/her assigned patients Hours: M-F, excluding Federal Holidays and Family Days (normally 5 days per year) The 8 hour shift will be determined and scheduled by the MTF and be scheduled between the hours of 0730am – 1630pm Qualifications: · Possesses a doctor of medicine degree or a doctor of osteopathy degree from an approved school of medicine or osteopathy. · Current board certification in Aerospace Medicine is highly recommended. If not board certified in Aerospace Medicine, then must show proof of completion of any medical residency program and must have a minimum of 3 years of U.S. military Flight Surgeon experience. · Possess current, unrestricted Medical License to practice Medicine · Possess current DEA · Possess BLS and ACLS · The applicant must have a minimum of 35 hours of direct patient care in the past year. Applicant must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the last 10 years having served as a privileged flight surgeon at a US Military installation, with experience in: 1 U.S. military medical standards to conduct special operational evaluations, including (but not limited to) PHA for flyers/special duty personnel, initial certification exams for flying/special duty applicants. 2 Aeromedical disposition for flying/special operational duty. 3 Conducting adaptability rating assessment for military special duty applicants. 4 Applying medical, fitness and profiling standards IAW AFIs 48-123, 36- 2905 and 10-203 (including profiling and duty restrictions as Profile Officer). 5 Providing primary care for active duty personnel and their family members. · The applicant must be able to locate, interpret and apply current regulations including: AFI 48-123, AFI 36-2905, AFI 10-203, DoD 5210.42R, and AFMAN 13-501.
