Band Information for rising 9th Graders
Band Classes (Band I, Band II and Wind Ensemble) Freshman students interested in taking band as a class should sign up for BAND I.
Band II and Wind Ensemble are audition bands. If you are interested in auditioning for these bands, please contact the band director, Mr. Rowe ([email protected]), to schedule an audition, or talk with your middle school band director. Placement in Band II and Wind Ensemble is done by Mr. Rowe.
Upcoming band concerts are 5/21/2014 (Concert Band I and Jazz) and 5/22/2014 (Concert Band II and Wind Ensemble). Marching Band Information Marching band is an after school activity. Everyone is welcome. You need not be in a band class to participate in marching band. If your student is interested in marching band, please bring your student (with their instrument) to our May Kick Off meeting (Tuesday, 5/13, 7pm), where we will introduce you to the Marching Band program. This meeting is in the Cafeteria near the main entrance.
Marching band is a commitment of both time and effort. Marching band students are expected to attend ALL practices, home football games, competitions and parades. Marching Band practice starts at the end of July and runs through November, with parade practice continuing once a week into December.
Marching Band Important Dates: 2014 5/13 7 pm Band Booster/Marching Band Kick Off Meeting 6/10 7pm Band Registration / New Parent Orientation 7/21 and 7/22 4pm – 8pm Mini Camp for Freshman/New Marchers 7/23 9am – 1pm Full Band practice 7/23 4pm – 8pm Finish Mini Camp for Freshman/New Marchers 7/24 9am – 4pm Full Band practice 7/25 10:30am – 5:30pm Full Band practice 7/28 through 8/1 7am – 9pm Full Band Camp Every Tues, Wed, Thurs until school starts 6pm – 10pm Full Band practice Tues, Wed, Thurs, after school starts After school ‘til 5:30 Full Band practice (end time is approximate)
Percussion: Auditions are required if you are interested in being in the Drum Line as drum line slots are limited. Drumline auditions will be in May – please check the website (www.apexhighband.org) for specific days and times. Front Ensemble (sideline percussion) has multiple openings and audition is not required.
Visual Ensemble (Color Guard and Dancers) auditions will also be in May in the auxiliary gym at Apex High School. Again, please check the calendar on the website (www.apexhighband.org) for specific days and times and wear appropriate, comfortable clothing and sneakers.
Jazz Band Jazz Band is an after school group that starts up after the Marching Band season (and parades) have ended (usually after Thanksgiving).
