[4855-2] 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 10 11 TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF 12 TRANSPORTATION NAME THE INTERSECTION LOCATED 13 AT THE JUNCTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 93 14 AND PERIMETER ROAD IN THE CITY OF CLEMSON “BILL 15 MCLELLAN INTERSECTION” AND ERECT APPROPRIATE 16 MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS INTERSECTION THAT 17 CONTAIN THE WORDS “BILL MCLELLAN 18 INTERSECTION”. 19 20 Whereas, Mr. Henslee Clifford “Bill” McLellan served Clemson 21 University in many capacities. He is especially remembered for 22 serving as the university’s Athletic Director from 1971 until June 23 of 1985; and 24 25 Whereas, the crowning jewel of his tenure as Athletic Director 26 came when the Clemson University Tigers won the NCAA 27 Division I Football National Championship in 1981 by defeating 28 the Nebraska Cornhuskers 2215 in the Orange Bowl, and thereby 29 completed an undefeated season with a record of 120; and 30 31 Whereas, Mr. McLellan has received numerous honors including 32 induction into the Clemson Hall of Fame and being a recipient of 33 the Order of the Palmetto; and 34 35 Whereas, it would be fitting and proper to bestow another honor 36 upon this outstanding member of the “Clemson Family” by having 37 an intersection in the shadow of “Death Valley” graced with his 38 name. Now, therefore, 39 40 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 41 concurring: 42

[4855] 3 1 That the members of the General Assembly request the 2 Department of Transportation name the intersection located at the 3 junction of South Carolina Highway 93 and Perimeter Road in the 4 City of Clemson “Bill McLellan Intersection” and erect 5 appropriate markers or signs at this intersection that contain the 6 words “Bill McLellan Intersection”. 7 8 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 9 the Department of Transportation. 10 XX 11
