GIRLS’ VOICE VIDEO CONTEST Hey GIRLS, we want to hear from you!!!

Tell us what you think about: THE MEDIA

HAVING A MENTOR

DEALING WITH VIOLENCE

FEELING CONFIDENT

1. SELECT YOUR QUESTION Please choose ONE of the following questions: 1. When you think about media (TV shows, video games, movies, magazines, advertisements, etc.) what is the best thing and the worst thing about it all? 2. What’s good about having a mentor? 3. How does violence affect you – either at school, in the media, at home, or in your neighbourhood? 4. What helps you to feel more confident?

2. PLAN YOUR MESSAGE Once you’ve selected your question, decide what you want to say! Make sure your message:  Relates to one of the four questions listed above (videos on other topics will not be accepted for this contest)  Shows how girls aged 9 to 13 see the issues  Has a clear focus  Is creative

3. CREATE YOUR VIDEO Start shooting your video!  You can submit as many videos as you want  Each video must be created especially for this contest.  Come up with a title for your video  Name your video with ‘Title of Video’ followed by the ‘Question you are focusing on’. For example, ‘Blue Skys – Having a Mentor’ or ‘Hope for My Community – Dealing with Violence’.  The maximum length of each video is 4 minutes.  Maximum file size is 150MB. For more information and instructions on how to decrease your video size, check out these helpful hints - http://www.wikihow.com/Compress-Video. Please ensure you are submitting a file that will work on YouTube  If you include other people’s photos, art or music, you MUST give written credit at the end of the video. Want to stay anonymous and protect your identity? Here are a few ideas! ☆ Write your message on cards, and hold them up in front of your face. ☆ Use still photos with a voice-over. ☆ Use animation or claymation. ☆ Shoot people in silhouettes, from behind, wearing big hats that hide their face, etc.
