Waioneke Email: RD 1 School Principal’s Chit Chat Firstly a big welcome Belana, Aidan and Bob, who are all new pupils in Room 4, and their families to the Waioneke School community  We would also like to farewell Kikorangi and his family, and wish them all the best for the future. You will have noticed that our fortnightly newsletter has almost been weekly. We have decided to send the newsletter out each week. So do check your child’s bag on Tuesdays. All the newsletters are numbered to help you keep track, and they will continue to be posted on the website. It looks like we will have fine weather for tonight’s community BBQ at school (5:30 – 7:30) so we do hope to see you there Linda

COMMUNITY EVENTS – our BBQ evening and the school swimming sports. Everyone is invited to our Community BBQ from 5:30 to 7:30 on Tuesday the 23rd February. The pool will be open and the BBQ will be available for you to cook your dinner. This is a great opportunity to informally meet the school staff and your neighbours. Our school swimming sports is being held on the following day (the 24th Feb), starting at 12:30 p.m. If you can make it, we’d love to see you there to cheer the kids on . NETBALL Attached please find an additional netball notice.. We do have a representative for the monthly meetings but still require assistance with coaching, managing and umpiring teams. We are aware how busy people’s lives are, but like all non-profit organisations the netball will only continue as long as there is some committed support. If you think you’d like to be involved please fill in the form and send it on back to school. Both boys and girls do play netball up to Year 8. We do have space for a few more players at Year 2, 3 or 4 . All of the games are played at Helensville on Saturday mornings so, unlike some weekend sport, you don’t need to travel all over Auckland. Please contact the office if you’d like to enrol your child.

BIBLE IN SCHOOLS Waioneke is continuing with our bible in schools programme, which is starting again shortly. The programme runs in each of our classes from 8:30 till 9 on Wednesday morning, and follows the CEC (Churches Education Commission) curriculum. It is run by community members who are police vetted, endorsed by their church, and in our case well known and respected by the school. The aim is to impart Christian values through story and this links with our School Values. If you do not wish for your child to attend, please let the school office know and we will make alternative arrangements.

HELENSVILLE A & P SHOW The show this year is on Saturday 27 February. A number of our students will be entering their Calf Day lambs and calves, and Nick is representing Waioneke at the Junior Farmer competition which starts in the Calf Ring at 12:45, so this will be one to put in the diary. If you would like the chance to be on TV and can get up early, TV One's Breakfast Show are doing live crosses of the weather with Tamati on Friday 26th from 6.30 in the morning from the showgrounds.

ASB BANKING Our ASB banking system is all set up ready to go. Unfortunately ASB Helensville misplaced our forms last year and those who applied last year do need to fill in another form. Regular saving can help develop positive financial management so if you are interested in being involved please phone Mrs Paul for a pack.

LUNCH ORDERS Firstly, our apologies for not being able to offer lunch orders at the moment. Our freezer is full of lovely South Head sausages! So we need to have a couple of Sausage Sizzles to free up some space before we can order more lunch order products.

SAUSAGE SIZZLE We will be having sausage sizzles at school on the 3rd of March and the 24th March. Please send your order form back to school. COMMUNITY NEWS

They are about 14 weeks so are fully housetrained, used to having a dog around, very friendly (they have been busy playing with a young lad over the last few weeks so are keen on cuddles and games). Now it is time for them to head out to new homes. If you are interested please phone Linda at school or leave a message with Maria.

HIPPY South Kaipara 2010 Once again enrolments are open for Whanau with children between 3 ½ and 4 ½ who wish to put their children on the HIPPY (Home Interaction Programme for Parents and Youngsters) Programme. Kelston Community Centre Corner Gt North Rd and Awaroa Rd

Why are many parents, teachers, principals and educational experts so worried about National Standards?

The Government’s National Standards are untested, and are unlikely to raise student achievement. This is why many in the education community are calling for a careful trial of National Standards, as our priority is to support teaching and learning and to talk with parents/caregivers about their child’s progress and learning needs.

All parents/caregivers, teachers, principals, BOT members, and other interested members of the community are invited to attend this public meeting to discuss many aspects of National Standards with leading educationalist Professor Martin Thrupp.
