Course Title: Special Procedures

Textbook: Snopek, Albert, Fundamentals of Special Radiographic Procedures; 5 th Edition

Course Overview: This course provides the student with an overview of interventional and surgical radiography. Topics include sterile technique, vascular, nonvascular interventional procedures and surgical radiography. Upon completion the student would demonstrate knowledge of radiographic procedures requiring sterile technique.

Instructional Format: Lectures, demonstrations, activities, assignments

Evaluation: Exams 200 points Assignment 100 points Participation & Demonstration 50 points Daily Log Sheets 100 points Oct /Nov /Dec Attendance sheets 50 points Final Exam 100 points 600 points Grading: A = 540-600 points B = 480-539 points C = 450-479 points F = Below 450 points

Class Policies: Examinations missed may ONLY be made up at the discretion of the instructor, if the reason for the absence is not medical. Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated. If cheating or plagiarism is detected, it will result in a grade of zero for that exam or assignment and the student will be referred to counseling. Should the offense occur again the student will be given a failing grade for the course.

Attendance: In compliance with the Jefferson State student attendance policy in the student handbook. Class Schedule Tuesdays 10:30 to 12:30

2ND GROUP ASSIGNMENT: Arthrography Due: September 26th

3rd GROUP ASSIGNMENT: Hysterosalpingography Due: September 26th

4th GROUP ASSIGNMENT: Myleography ( Needs to show Cervical & Lumbar) Due: September 26th

5th GROUP ASSIGNMENT: Nuclear Medicine Due: October 3rd

6TH GROUP ASSIGNMENT: MRI Due: October 3rd

DO NOT RECOGNIZE PATIENT NAME, STAFF NAMES IN YOUR REPORT

Everyone in the group has to participate in the entire process.

Observe and report your procedure to the class.

** If you have a large group at your hospital; you may not all be able to go at once. If not the group can split up and report their procedure along with the group as a joint procedure.

Your report needs to include:

1) Name of procedure 2) Age of patient 3) History of patient that pertains to this procedure only 4) Patient prep for this procedure 5) Supplies that were used (major things not little things like sponges)  If hospital has expired samples for you; use them in your report. 6) Contrast used with approximate amount and why that particular contrast was used. 7) Description of procedure events including identifying anatomy with any pictures, poster or explanation show & tell for the class 8) Type of staff in the room ( ? RN, RT, Scrub, etc. ) and what their responsibility was in the procedure 9) Procedure results 10) Post- prep for the patient

You will need to present this assignment as if you were teaching the procedure to the class.
