A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Clifford B. Latta. With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to our friend and colleague, Clifford B. Latta, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul. WHEREAS, Clifford B. Latta proudly served this General Assembly from 1968 through 1971 as the Senator from the 29th Senatorial District, which at that time included Floyd, Knott , and Martin counties; and WHEREAS, Clifford B. Latta was born on December 8, 1928, a native son of the Commonwealth and a lifelong resident of Prestonsburg, Kentucky, and traversed these earthly bounds on February 8, 2006; and WHEREAS, Clifford B. Latta was a very accomplished academic having graduated from the Kentucky Military Institute in 1946, Washington and Lee University in 1950, and from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1954; and WHEREAS, Clifford B. Latta began his career practicing law with his grandfather, Andrew J. May, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky and continued to practice law in his hometown for more than 50 years; and WHEREAS, Clifford B. Latta was a lifetime member of the Kentucky Bar Association, a member of the American Bar Association, a member and former president of the Floyd County Bar Association, and a member of the Phi Delta legal fraternity; and

WHEREAS, Clifford B. Latta was extremely proud, honored, and humbled to serve the people of eastern Kentucky in the Kentucky State Senate, and while a member of the Senate he served a term as chairman of the State Government Committee; and WHEREAS, Clifford B. Latta also served as Prestonsburg City Attorney from 1964 to 1968 and as the first chairman of the Big Sandy Area Development Board, which later became the Big Sandy Area Development District; and WHEREAS, Clifford B. Latta was a member of the Prestonsburg Community College Development Foundation, a former member and past president of the

Prestonsburg Kiwanis Club, and a former executive director of the Prestonsburg Municipal Housing Commission; and WHEREAS, Clifford B. Latta also served as senior vice president and as a member of the board of directors for First Commonwealth Bank in Prestonsburg; and WHEREAS, Clifford B. Latta was a faithful member of Irene Cole Memorial Baptist Church for almost 70 years; and WHEREAS, Clifford B. Latta is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Ann Latta; three beloved children, Clifford B. Latta III, Jackson D. Latta, and Audrey Hudson; and two grandchildren, Holley Noel Williamson and Adam Charles Williamson; and WHEREAS, Clifford B. Latta was preceded in death by his parents, Olga May and Clifford B. Latta, Sr. and two sons, Robert Andrew Latta and James Parker Latta; and WHEREAS, the passing of Clifford B. Latta has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of our friend and colleague, Clifford B. Latta, and extends to his family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. The House of Representatives recognizes that Clifford B. Latta was a man deeply loved and respected by all those who knew him, and the members thank him for his years of service to this General Assembly. Section 3. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Clifford B. Latta.
