Pva Officials Committee Meeting

PVA OFFICIALS COMMITTEE MEETING Wednesday, Jan 16, 2008 7 pm, Walter Johnson High School, Bethesda, MD.

Attendees: Dr. Bill Price – Officials Chair Mrs. Norvetta Warren Mr. Roland Penn Mr. Todd King Ms. Sharon Good Mr. Michael McCoy Mr. Lloyd McMillan Mr. Jerry Bookin-Wkeiner Ms. Jane Harman

Dr. Bill Price, Officials Chair called the meeting to order and presented the agenda. The primary items on the agenda were 1. The incident at the Jan. 12 Montgomery Co. Invitational at the PG Complex, 2. The schedule of meets for the indoor season, 3. Training sessions, 4. The proposed modification to the Official’s SOP, and 5. The proposed budget.

Dr. Price discussed the incident at the Jan. 12 Montgomery Co. Invitational at the PG Complex where the coach from Teddy Roosevelt HS in DC punched the referee in the face. Ms. Warren said she was very upset over the coaches’ action at the meet and with his testimony on the television news as she saw the whole incident. She had brought to the referee, Bo Myers, attention the problem with the multicolored undergarment a TR HS girl had on. The coach got involved and the physical activity followed. It was agreed that Dr. Price would write a letter letting people know that the type of physical abuse by the coach is unacceptable.

Dr. Price reviewed the upcoming meets and the need for officials. The list of meets is on the PVA web site.

Dr. Price talked about the upcoming training sessions. He gave umpires training on January 13, 2008 from 9-12 am the PG Complex. Mr. McCoy will give horizontal jumps training at the next PG Complex all-comers meet, and Lloyd McMillan will give starters training in February.

Mr. McCoy explained his proposed revision to the PVA Standard Operation Procedures. A motion was made by Mrs. Warren and seconded by Mr. McMillan that we that we would accept comments and vote on it for acceptance at the next PVA Officials meeting. The draft is on the PVA web site.

The proposed budget was on the agenda, but since Ronald Clarke had prepared the budget and was not present, it was agreed to table it until the next meeting.

Dr. Price reminded officials that the status list of PVA Officials is available on the PVA Officials web site. The next PVA Officials Committee meeting was set for Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 7 p.m. at the Walter Johnson HS, Bethesda, MD
