Story Quilt Book Report: Cozy Up With a Great Book!
Objects often have special meanings to us…they remind us of a person or important event. Think about the book(s) you’ve read. What were the significant or important objects in your story? In literature, these objects are called symbols – they represent important ideas or memories.
1. Look through your book; brainstorm 6-8 objects significant in the story: □ These objects should represent an important person, place or event.
2. Using 2-column format, write 2-4 sentences explaining what each object symbolizes: □ Why is this object important or memorable? □ Who is this object important to? □ Why did the author include this object in the story?
3. Choose 4 symbols that best represent your book to include on your quilt.
Designing your Quilt…
Measure & divide your paper into thirds across and lengthwise – this will create 9 equal squares.

Decorate the 4 blank squares that remain by cutting out scrapbook or wrapping paper OR you can simply cut out shapes/lines from colored paper to glue on, making your own pattern. Work may be cursive or typed – if you choose cursive, make sure to complete a rough draft so you can edit for mechanics!
