CV Checklist

To help you prepare writing your CV, consider the following:  The position you are applying for.  The qualifications, experience and skills required for the position.

Personal Details

Have you provided your name, address, telephone number and e-mail details?

Have you provided information on your marital status, nationality and date of birth?

Is your e-mail address suitable to use for contact with prospective employers? (i.e. formal rather than what you would use for personal emails)

Education

Have you started with your most recent course?

Have you included the name of your college and school

Have you provided a brief description of your highest qualification? (i.e. subjects studied)

Have you included the start and end dates?

Have you included employer names and dates of employment?

Have you included job titles and duties performed?

Have you included all paid and voluntary experience?

Have you included your work placement experience? (If completed)

Have you related your experience to match the job you are applying to?

Skills

Have you clearly demonstrated evidence of your skills including language, computer, interpersonal and more?

Do your skills match the requirements of the position you are applying to?

Skills to consider:  IT skills: Internet, email, Adobe Photoshop, Java, Web design, Excel, Access, PowerPoint  Office Skills: Preparing letters, memos and faxes in English, answering the telephone and taking messages, preparing and sending emails.  Languages: Mention IELTS score if applicable. State the level of each language you speak - beginner, intermediate, proficient, fluent, native speaker.  Other: Strong leadership and management skills, well organized, good at multi-tasking, evaluating data, delivering presentations, working in teams, taking an idea and developing it, communicating effectively and research skills.

Example of a Personal Profile: I am reliable, adaptable and enthusiastic, possessing excellent communication skills in English and Arabic. I am able to form working relationships very quickly with a wide range of people (be able to give examples if asked about this in the interview). I have strong IT skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

Words which may be useful to use on your CV: Enthusiastic, reliable, adaptable, conscientious, efficient, flexible, cooperative, self-confident, versatile, decisive, consistent, energetic…….
