Planning for Summer Term 2016 (Medium term planning)

12th April – 22nd July 2016 This term our theme will be ‘Transport’. Within this topic we will be learning about a variety of types of transport, whilst also celebrating various events throughout the summer term, and linking adult led and free play activities throughout each week. If your child has any particular interest or concerns regarding the topic planned for next term please do not hesitate to contact Rachael or your child’s keyworker as soon as possible to enable us to support and plan for each child’s needs.

 Week 1 (12/4/16 – 15/4/16) Cars – Cooking: Porridge Oat Fruit Cakes (Wed AM) This week will be our first week back after the Easter holidays. We will be practising writing our names for adult led this week and measuring the distance small cars travel through tubes. There will also be a car paint slide, a car wash and home corner. Outside will be a garage role play area where the children can use the tools to ‘fix’ the ride along cars. We will also have a maths car park, drawing and gluing and sand and water tyres.

 Week 2 (18/4/16 – 22/4/16) Bus – Cooking: Traffic light crackers (Tue AM) In our second week we will be learning about buses, playing various bus games for adult led time. Our role play area will be a big bus, and outside role play will be the garage. We will be developing physical skills by using scissors in the play dough and developing our writing literacy skills by providing notepads and pencils for mark making. We will be reading ‘Please don’t chat to the bus driver’ book for circle time and singing ‘The wheels on the bus’.

 Week 3 (25/4/16 – 29/4/16) Trains– Cooking: Cheerio’s lace necklaces (Fri AM) This week we will be making trains from egg cartons at the craft area. We will have a Duplo train track for construction development, dot-to- dot train pictures to develop pencil control, sorting shapes in the maths area and a mystery sensory box. In the garden we will practise balancing; walking along a bench and jumping off the end. There will also be small world house and people, sensory water beads and train paint sponges for arts and crafts.

 Week 4 (3/5/16 – 6/5/16) Planes – Cooking: Ice cream cupcakes (Thurs AM) Our role play area will be an airport with resources to develop mark making and writing skills/ pencil control. We will be playing an aeroplane addition game for adult led inside and making sun catchers for our adult led activity in the garden. We will also have galaxy play dough, small world people and aeroplanes, glittery water and buckets and spades in the digging pit. We will be practising physical skills with the balls, baths and hoops this week also. There will also be spray chalk bottles for splatter painting in the garden.

 Week 5 (9/5/16 - 13/5/16) Boats – Cooking: Triangle cut sandwiches with a tomato and cucumber sails (Mon PM) For adult led we will be talking about shapes and arranging them into boat shapes, developing maths skills. We will also be making apple boats for the sensory tray, have the scales and sorting toys available, wooden blocks for construction and Jake and the Neverland Pirates game on the computer. The garden will have foam and blue glitter trays, painting on the boards, the Pirate Ship for role play, an obstacle course and pencils, paper and stencils.

Mydocuments/planning/parents2016planningletter.doc  Week 6 (16/5/16 – 20/5/16) Helicopters – Cooking: Milk chocolate truffles (Wed PM) This week we will be making spinning helicopters for our indoor adult led activity, whilst outside we will be playing ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf?’ developing maths language around time and counting. Also available inside and outside will be sensory blue rice, small world helicopters and police stations, cameras for the children to use, the counting bears, the mud kitchen, space hoppers and hula hoops.

 Week 7 (23/5/16 – 27/5/16) Underground Trains – Cooking: Fruit salad and yogurt (Fri PM) We will be playing the ‘rhyming soup’ game this week to develop our rhyming skills, and playing ‘Simon Says’ in the garden to develop our listening and understanding skills. There will also be the white boards available to use for writing development, a train ticket office role play area, lego duplo, train tracks and trains, sand and shells, glittery water and dolls with pushchairs. Art and Craft this week will be making feather crowns in the garden and train pictures inside.

HALF TERM

 Week 8 (6/6/16 – 10/6/16) Car Ferries/ Catamarans – Cooking: Boat shaped short bread (Fri AM) For our adult led this week we will be playing the ‘Yo Ho Ho’ Orchard game to develop our maths, social and concentration skills. We will be also making paper boats which we will float in the water tray outside. We will also have a ferry port role play area, happy land, foam trays for mark making, computers and compare bears. In the garden we will be testing various objects to see if they sink or float, have sensory gloves to feel, sticking craft activity, and small boats.

 Week 9 (13/6/16 – 17/6/16) Submarine – Cooking: Submarine cookies (Wed AM) This week we will be comparing how tall we are on a height chart, talking about our differences and similarities whilst using maths language. We will also continue to develop our literacy skills, practising writing our names and reading books. We will be junk modelling making submarines, and playing with the Lego, wooden blocks and sea creatures. In the garden there will also be cars, yellow water with sea creatures, shells and sand and printing pictures with sponges and paints. The children will be bringing home their Father’s Day craft this week.

 Week 10 (20/6/16 – 24/6/16) Bikes/ Rickshaws – Cooking: Jam Tarts (Tue PM) We will be using scissors to cut out pictures of bikes and make collages. We will also make pasta bike pictures, using the corn flour to mark make and sensory play, building bricks, number boards and pens, dot-to-dot bike pictures and happy street. In the garden we will be counting how many steps it takes us to get around the garden, using estimation and number language, making prints with bikes on large scale, and have soil trays with vehicles in.

 Week 11 (27/6/16 – 1/7/16) Tractors – Cooking: Krispy cake wheels (Thur PM) This week we will be making toilet tube tractors, role playing in our farm shop with real fruit and vegetables, using the tools in the play dough, making a big tractor puzzle, colouring in tractor pictures and taking pictures with our cameras. Outside we will be using our fine manipulative skills to do some threading, painting tyre tracks with rollers, using rice and lentils for sensory play, playing with the happy street and using the chalks and black paper for mark making and drawing. This week will also be our sports day on either Tuesday or Thursday weather dependent. Mydocuments/planning/parents2016planningletter.doc  Week 12 (4/7/16 – 8/11/16) Lorries and Vans – Cooking: Lorry shaped cookies (Fri AM) We will be making a lorry chute this week to see how far we can make different sized lorries travel. We will be using our maths skills of measuring and recording our findings with the cameras and clipboards. We will also have bubble wrap painting, junk modelling lorries, threading and have a warehouse role play area. In the garden will be balls, the digging pit, a fire station, the builders yard and mud kitchen.

 Week 13 (11/7/16 – 15/7/16) Free Choice Theme – Cooking: Rice Krispie cakes (Mon AM) This week we will be talking about the summer holidays and planning some activities we’d like to do with our family and friends. We will also be making summer pictures for craft, role playing in a school area, playing with puzzles and dibba dabbers. In the garden will be making ‘flip flop’ pictures, twirling ribbons and if the weather is nice; using the paddling pools.

Week 14 (18/7/16 – 22/7/16) Free Choice Theme – Our last week of term before we break up for the summer holidays we will be having a free choice theme, revisiting some of the activities and crafts we have enjoyed over the summer term. Our role play area will be the school area still, in which the children can dress up in some uniform similar from the local schools. We will also be enjoying the paddling pools and games and songs on the field.
