On and off field changes for Huntingdon

Huntingdon’s close season has seen changes to the Cromwellians’ backroom staff with former reserve boss Ryan Asher-Powell stepping up to first team duties as manager Seb Hayes’ assistant. Taking the second string reins are former under 18s boss Clive Hiscock and Mark Norris who ran the Wisbech Town youth side last term.

The appointment of former Cromwellians boss Ricky Marheineke as manager of Southern League neighbours St Ives has seen Town lose the services of three of last season’s successful side who have linked up with their former boss. Full back Ollie Medwynter and front runners Stuart Eason and Ben Seymour-Shove have all switched to Westwood Road.

Goalkeeper Andy Stevens has returned to Stamford while veteran defender Mark Arber has hung up his boots after his spell on loan from Corby Town in the second half of last term.

Five new faces have checked in at Jubilee Park with long serving St Ives defender Dan Newman and ex-St Neots Saints captain Sam Spencer strengthening the Cromwellians’ rearguard and midfield pair Ben Colmer and Luke Kennedy arriving from Eynesbury and Peterborough Northern Star respectively. Also linking up with the Cromwellians is Andy Buckle, another midfielder from Oakham.

Five new recruits for Diamonds

AFC Rushden & Diamonds have unveiled five new signings for their second season of Premier Division football. Star capture is former Northampton Town defender Liam Dolman who captained Daventry in a highly successful campaign in 2013-14. Also moving from Communications Park is midfield enforcer Adam Confue. Last season’s Premier Division joint top scorer Jason Turner has arrived from landlords Wellingborough while signing from Cogenhoe are experienced defender Mark Hewitt and exciting wing prospect Elliott Lamb-Johnson.

Departures to higher grade football are striker Alfie Taylor who has linked up with Kettering and midfielder Aaron King who has switched to Bedford Town.

Last season’s under 21 boss Dean Thomas has stepped down from his post with Andy Keen coming in as replacement. He was previously a coach at the Reading academy, has managed Bracknell in the Hellenic League and last season coached in the Diamonds junior ranks. Also joining the club is widely travelled former pro Darren Purse who will be head coach at the Diamonds academy.

Diamonds picked up a first trophy of the season on 12th July as two Russ Dunkley goals gave them a 2-0 derby success at Rushden & Higham in the annual Chris Ruff Memorial Cup match. Eighteen days later they won the Supporters’ Direct Shield beating Hinckley AFC 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw which saw Matt Gearing and Dunkley on the scoresheet.

Five new faces for Deeping

Deeping have unveiled a sprinkling of new arrivals for the campaign ahead. Making a return to Outgang Road is goalkeeper Danny Bircham, who was a regular between the posts in Rangers’ title winning 2007-08 campaign. Long serving left sided Yaxley defender Matt Holland has checked in along with left sided midfielder Bobby Lee who helped Harrowby win promotion last term. Completing the new faces are young full back Jack Bates from Whittlesey and striker Fraser Sturgess who topped the Peterborough League scorecharts with Netherton last term as well as plundering goals galore for the Rangers youth side as they claimed Thurlow Nunn League glory. He has represented Wales at under 16 level.

Highlight of Rangers’ build up programme was an impressive 4-0 win over last season’s UCL champions Spalding.

The club has unveiled a famous sponsor in recent weeks with five times world snooker champion ‘Rocket’ Ronnie O’Sullivan agreeing to supply training jackets for the club’s under 10 Clarets side for the season ahead.

Cogenhoe sign familiar faces

A number of former Compton Park players have rejoined Cogenhoe over the summer. Full back Damon Herbert and central defender Stuart Smeathers both return from Wellingborough while left sided player Josh Olowoyo is back from a spell with Sileby and Robbie Bushell returns from a year’s break.

Other new Cooks recruits are Wellingborough pair, goalkeeper Jamie Brassington and midfielder Chris Davies and experienced target man Jermaine Gordon who was with Blaby & Whetstone last season. Goalkeeper Jack Harding switches from Ardley, midfielder Mick Parkes arrives from Brixworth and striker Lance Allen joins from Sileby.

A departure from Compton Park is last season’s top scorer Tom Liversedge who has signed for Bedford Town.

Highlight of the Cooks’ pre-season preparations was a match against Northampton Town, the home side holding a mixture of professionals and youth teamers to a goalless draw.

Some pleasing news over the summer is the move made by former Cooks youth team product Dan Holman into the Football League with Colchester. Holman steps into the pro ranks after two years in the Conference with Braintree.

Yaxley snap up four

Yaxley have been one of the summer’s more stable clubs with the Cuckoos largely reliant on the squad which had the club’s best season in years last time out.

Star signing is goalscoring winger Dan Cotton who helped Spalding to the Premier Division championship last term, while Peterborough Northern Star’s leading marksman Nick Davey is another attacking recruit. In defence Lewis Stone returns after spending last season with Deeping and Whittlesey. A midfield capture is former Histon youngster Dom Poli.

The Cuckoos signed off their pre season build up by winning the Mildenhall Jack Butcher Memorial four team tournament on 26th July. Yaxley beat Sawston 2-0 in the semis with goals from Dan Cotton and Nick Davey and then pipped the host club by a single Cotton goal in the final. Matches were 25 minutes each way.

Long serving skipper Ricky Hailstone’s contribution to the club was recognised at the club’s AGM when he was made a life vice president of the club.

Fenmen add to firepower

After a disappointing first season back in the league Wisbech are hoping to fare better in their second campaign. Manager Dick Creasey has upped the team’s goal potential by bringing in Danny Beaumont from Dereham and Josh Ford, Boston Town top scorer last season before a late season switch to Spalding.

Defender Stacy Cartwright has rejoined Wisbech after half a season with Deeping while completing the new signings are former Holbeach pair, midfielder Nick Bishop and exciting wide man Fraser Bayliss, and young Chatteris midfielder Jack Whiting.

Among the few departures from the Fenmen squad are veteran striker Tony Battersby who is believed to have retired and midfielder Danny White who has rejoined former club Wroxham in the Ryman League.

Major revamp for Doughboys

The close season has seen the break up of Wellingborough’s 2013-14 side, with late season arrival as manager Ben Watts opting for a much younger squad this time round.

Joining the backroom staff is Gary Tinkler who numbers Stafford and Eastbourne Borough among his previous clubs. He will double up as player and coach.

Turkish midfielder Gokhan Ulker is the most experienced newcomer, joining from Sileby while front man Joe Wright has moved from Harborough. Stepping up from Division One football are Rothwell Corinthians midfielder Ryan Goodband, Whitworth forward Mark Pryor and former Irchester defensive duo Ash Hunt and Ben Wilson.

Young goalkeeper Ash Foulger has been signed from AFC Rushden & Diamonds while forward Kyle Locklin played Southern League football for Rothwell Town and defender Matthew Lee has arrived from Bedworth.

Former Football League goalgrabber of the 1980s Steve Phillips, who numbered Peterborough and Northampton among his clubs, has joined the Doughboys in a commercial and fundraising role. At the end of his career he played UCL football for Stamford and managed Baker Perkins in the competition.

Few changes for Star

Peterborough Northern Star show only limited changes from the squad which finished the 2013-14 campaign.

Experienced campaigners returning to the game after a break are goalkeeper Steve Corry who numbers Rushden & Diamonds, Stamford and Oldham among his previous clubs and midfielder Scott Musgrove, a former Cheltenham player who was also with Stamford and Spalding before being sidelined by injury during the 2012-13 season.

Holbeach midfielder Andy Law and young defender Jack Barron from Peterborough Sports are other new faces at Chestnut Avenue, while Michael Mackrell steps up from Peterborough League football with Sawtry.

Pacy striker Jordan Macleod featured in the new season’s first transfer, switching from Peterborough Sports after a prolific season last time out which saw him notch a century of goals in Peterborough League, Sunday and youth football. Also linking up with Star is Ukrainian front man Jurij Mychalczuk who has played professional football in Poland and his home country.

Player coach Derwayne Stupple has left Star to take the reins at Spartan South Midlands League Ampthill while former Peterborough Sports under 18s boss Lloyd Burton will run the Star second string in the months ahead, with Phil Watson also moving from Peterborough Sports to assist him.

The club’s final friendly match on 5th August sees them take on Conference club Braintree in a memorial game for Star supporter Jimmy Owen whose family are friends of Braintree boss and West Ham legend Alan Devonshire.

Off the field the club has announced a new sponsorship deal with Mick George Skips which will see the club provided with a new kit and naming rights granted over the ground which will now be known as the ‘Mick George Arena’.

Two new faces for Desborough

A quiet close season at the Waterworks Field has seen manager Ian Walker add just a couple of new faces to the Ar Tarn squad for the month ahead.

New coach Glyn Davies has been joined at the Waterworks Field by his son Aaron, a defender who ended last season with Sileby, while midfielder Dave Goodman has arrived from the AFC Rushden & Diamonds Under 21 squad.

Holbeach sign title winners aplenty

A summer of spectacular change has seen Holbeach recruit a host of new players who helped their previous clubs to league championships last term.

Defenders Jamie Stevens and the versatile Jonny Allen were both part of the Tigers’ 2012-13 championship squad before moving to Spalding to enjoy a repeat success last term. Also switching from the Tulips is midfielder Danny Steadman.

Holbeach have signed a trio of Oadby’s Division One title winners, midfielder Jake Duffy and strike pair Courtney Meade and Livo Dube, and have also recruited two of Skegness Town’s Lincolnshire League champions, defender Liam Parker and winger Jake Gibson.

Arriving at Carters Park from higher grade football are Kettering winger Ash Fuller, Grantham front man Gary King and utility man Danny Spencer from Bedworth. Completing the new faces is long serving Boston Town midfielder Ollie Pinner.

Another new face is physio Carol Holland who joins from St Neots.

The Tigers missed out on pre season silverware losing the Pigott-Drury Memorial Cup to Grantham on penalties after the sides shared four goals.

Walnut Boys recruit higher

AFC Kempston go into the new season with a stronger looking squad as they seek to progress up the Premier Division table.

The Walnut Boys have welcomed back last season’s leading marksman Scott Joseph after his late season move to AFC Rushden & Diamonds last term, while fellow attacking recruit Ben Gallant is proven at a higher level with Leighton and Rugby.

Midfielders Shane Bush and Dom Marsala and defender Grant Fryer also arrive from Leighton while another new face is Buckingham goalkeeper Carl Knox, who will contest the number one jersey with the returning Martin Conway who helped Ampthill reach the FA Vase semi finals last season.

Among players departing Hillgrounds for higher level football are goalkeeper Dave Hulyer who has joined Arlesey while midfielder Steph Kemoagna has switched to Leighton.

Highlight of Kempston’s pre season programme was a 2-1 win over a Luton Town squad. On a sad note the Walnut Boys’ visit to Stotfold had to be abandoned after a home player suffered a broken leg, and after the game Eagles coach Tony Lamacraft passed away after being taken ill in the car park.

Sleaford strengthen up

Sleaford have strengthened their squad over the summer with some impressive additions.

Adding to the squad’s goal potential is the arrival of Kings Lynn striker Euan Clarke and Deeping wide man Mitch Griffiths, while another flank player added is Josh Raby who started last season with Town before moving up to step 4 with Eastwood. An experienced midfield addition is former Lincoln United playmaker Matt O’Halloran.

Three more players returning to Eslaforde Park are left back Lee Llewellyn from Heckington, central defender David Hone after a break from the game and full back or midfielder Charlie Ward from Boston United, while young recruits with a bright future are former Fulbeck midfielder Tom Vertigan and ex-Lincoln Moorlands front man Brad Hockin.

Boston ring the changes

Boston Town’s Nathan Collins has been one of the busiest managers over the summer, reshaping the squad he inherited in mid season by bringing in a host of newcomers for the Poachers.

Defensive captures are Brigg left back Danny Barrett and central defenders Tim Lowe from Cleethorpes and Courtney Warren from Walton & Hersham, while midfield recruits are Grimsby Town pair Tom Charlesworth and Callum Walker, Aaron Eyett from Boston United and James Petronzio from Grimsby Borough whose competitive debut will be delayed after suffering a broken leg in pre season against Lincoln United.

One signing well known to UCL followers is striker Alex Beck who joins the Poachers from Deeping.

One of the Poachers’ all time legends, midfielder Paul Goodhand, has announced his retirement from the game.

Sileby in rebuild

After a season of struggle last time out Sileby have a number of new players on board as they prepare for their second Premier campaign.

Manager Daren Young has returned to his former club Stewarts & Lloyds to snap up goalkeeper David Allan and midfielder Adam Saunders, while the side’s goal power has been given a boost by the arrival of last season’s Northants Combination top scorer Brian Farrell who bagged 38 goals for Stanion. Other new signings are Leatherhead defender Steve Dasse, Northampton Spencer midfielder Zondi Chunga, Beckenham forward Anton Campbell and the returning Jimi Emefuna.

Former assistant manager Ian Edge has left Fernie Fields, rejoining Peterborough Sports as Under 18 manager.

Old favourites return to Newport

After struggling last season Newport Pagnell have brought some old favourites back to the club as they seek an upturn in fortunes. Left back Keith Williams returns from Southern League Aylesbury United and centre half Dave Baker is back in the fold after a spell with Banbury. Prolific striker Dom Lawless is back at Willen Road after spells with St Ives, Bedford Town, Banbury and Buckingham. Also switching from the Robins are defender Max Risby and midfielder Mark Rodger, while Long Buckby’s top scorer last term Josh Crawley adds to the Swans’ firepower.

An addition to the Newport management team is Paul Warnecki who will be goalkeeping coach, having previously held the same role with Ampthill and Long Buckby.

Four recruits for Harborough

After their last gasp escape from relegation on the final day of last season Harborough have had a low key summer with just a handful of notable new faces to report.

Experienced defender Michael Duroe has joined the Bees from Sileby while adding to the side’s firepower is widely travelled striker Nick Pollard who played for Oadby in their first UCL campaign.

Former Thurnby midfield man Elliott Phillips is another addition to the Bowdens Park squad, while wide man Vinay Sidar was with Charlton as a junior.

Among the Bowden Park departures is Taras Petranyuk who has returned to his native Ukraine to have trials for a second level club.

New look for Buckby

After their brush with the drop last term Long Buckby are hoping for better fortunes under the management of the league’s youngest boss, 25 year old Dan Stewart.

Stewart, formerly Phil Mason’s assistant, has brought some familiar faces back to Station Road, including goalkeeper James Broadbent from Eastbourne Town, Bugbrooke defender Dan Worton, Sileby back four man Elliott Herbert and Wellingborough midfielder Wes Emery. Also joining Buckby are former Cogenhoe front runners Antar Phipps-Norton and Perri Wells, Ashley Stewart from Northampton Spencer plus midfielder Pascal Agyei who played for Woodford in their Southern League days. Former Aston Villa academy keeper Ryan Emery, Northampton Town midfielder Tyler Reeve and Northampton Spencer pair, defender Dan Martin and midfielder Kane Reynolds have also checked in at Station Road.

Three of last season’s Buckby squad have joined Southern League clubs with midfielder Jean Dakouri and winger Nkosi Mzungwana trying their luck with Banbury and midfielder Joe Power linking up with Daventry.

Alan Kightley has joined the senior coaching staff with Ash Inwood returning to the reserve manager’s post, assisted by Ian Moss with Jamie Middleton taking a coaching role.

All change at Oadby

Newly promoted Division One champions Oadby will be among the league’s most changed clubs when the new campaign gets underway.

After the departure of manager Jeff Stocking the Poachers’ successful squad broke up with only Rob Morgan remaining from the title winning regulars.

First new signing made by incoming boss Steve Walker was Jon Mitchell, handed a player coach role after a switch from Harborough. Recruits from elsewhere in the UCL are Bourne goalkeeper Aaron Bellairs and defender Dan Smith and Harborough full back Martin Anderson, while former Hastings wide man or forward Kamran Glen is another new face at Freeways Park. Brothers Kieran and Colum Nugent have moved from Aylestone Park with winger James Bessey-Saldanha joining from GNG, defender Liam Taylor arriving from the Tresham Academy and experienced back four man Chris Hollist returning to Freeways Park after a brief spell with the Poachers last term. Defender Tendai Daire joins from Gemeg Academy and midfielder Adam Randall moves from Burton Park

A number of last season’s squad have moved higher up the ladder with Eddie Appleton (Corby), Cameron Powell (Stamford) and Jon Stevenson (Barwell) all signing for step 3 clubs.

Eynesbury charity match a huge success

Eynesbury’s return to the Premier Division after thirteen years away will see the promotion winning squad given the chance to shine by co-bosses Matt Plumb and Martin Field.

Only experienced addition to the Rovers squad is defender Ryan Spencer who makes the short trip from Huntingdon while left sided youngster Jordan Nicholson has been recruited from Cambridge City.

Most notable departure is the free scoring Jack Weeden who has retired from the game.

Highlight of the club’s warm up programme was a win over step 3 Biggleswade Town at Hall Road.

On 20th July Hall Road staged a charity match between a side of former players from the early 90s and the Arsenal Charity team. Paul Carey scored a hat trick as the Eynesbury veterans went down 8- 4 in front of a crowd around the thousand mark. A post match auction conducted by Eastenders actor Ricky Groves raised over £1,200 for various charities, with gate receipts, a raffle and donations on the day taking the proceeds of the event to over £6,000, to be distributed to Meningitis Now, Orchid Cancer and the Arsenal Foundation charities.

Arrows go with promotion winning squad

Most of the players who helped Harrowby win promotion from Division One have signed on again for the club’s Premier Division return, although managerial duo Mark Fardell and Jay Harrison have added a few newcomers to provide greater competition for places.

Former Barrowby defender Billy Stubbs and midfield duo Joe Clarke and Barry Payne have arrived at the Environcom Stadium along with former Lincoln United front men Ian Ward and Jason Hall.

The signing of the summer though could be Miles Hunter. The former Sleaford hot shot won a move to Boston United after a prolific season with the Greens in 2010-11, and then played for Edinburgh City after moving north of the border. The club is awaiting international clearance for the prolific scorer. Another recruit of pedigree is Kegan Bernstein, a right sided player who was an academy player with Tottenham.

A notable milestone this term will see the Arrows play in the FA Cup for the first time.

In the season ahead the club will be running a development team Harrowby Saints in the Central Midlands League.

Stability for newcomers Thurnby

League newcomers Thurnby Nirvana have retained the bulk of last season’s East Midlands Counties League championship winning squad for the challenge of step 5 football.

Ryan Amoo, a former Aston Villa and Northampton Town player, has joined the club as midfield cover, while defensive signings are ex-Desborough and Oadby man Wayne Dean and Aylestone Park’s Shaquille Brooks. Another new recruit is Kirby Muxloe midfielder Alex Biggs.

Thurnby plundered a century of goals in winning promotion last season and they have warmed up for the new season with several high scoring wins mainly against Midland League sides.

Britton rebuilds Foundrymen

Relegated Stewarts & Lloyds will have a new look in their first Division One campaign in 29 years. Incoming manager Barry Britton has raided former club Desborough to sign a host of his former Ar Tarn reserve side of last season.

Moving to Occupation Road are defenders Paul Britton, Steve Hadden and Jack Clements, midfielders Ryan Britton, Andy Malloy and Matty O’Neill and front runners Arran Brown, Jordan Crawford, Jake Thompson and Lee Thompson. Another new recruit is ex-Weldon marksman Lee Thomson.

Britton will be assisted by ex-Wellingborough Town man Anton Thomas who will double up as physio at Occupation Road.

The new look Foundrymen started their new campaign with a 3-0 defeat in the annual Bob Cumming Memorial Cup match with Corby Town.

Same again for Lutterworth

Lutterworth Athletic embark on their second season of UCL football with a similar looking squad to that which claimed a fifth place finish on their bow. Most notable addition is striker Jarred Pickering who returns to Hall Lane after playing for Hinckley United in the Conference North and Southern League Premier Division. Left sided player Sam Young joins from Quorn while skipper Billy Hayes returns to action after being sidelined by injury for a year. Defender Josh Rapley and midfielder Steve Turner also return to Hall Lane after spells out of football.

Assistant manager Lee English has stepped up to become joint manager with father Mick, while former under 18 boss and Leicester City academy coach Graham Chambers joins the senior backroom staff.

A floodlight upgrade over the summer will enable the club to resume playing under the Hall Lane lights in the new season.

A new face on the backroom side is goalkeeping coach Lee Deacon.

Limited changes for Nurserymen

Young midfielder Lewis Cardno from Newport Pagnell is another Olney signing while centre back Grant Burrows is a former captain of the Milton Keynes College side.

Coach Dan Walder has left East Street to take up a post with Luton Town while James Sear takes up the role of player coach with the Nurserymen.

Pre-season changes for Burton on and off field

It has been a summer of change at Burton Park with a number of departures on and off the field. Chairman and secretary husband and wife team Kenny and Sam Gordon have stepped down from post along with vice chairman Vince Thomas. Filling the posts are the returning Stewart Glendenning (chairman), Steve Harding (vice chairman) and Dave Borrett (secretary).

Manager Joe Smyth has also resigned after 18 months at the helm, leading Park Wanderers to an eighth place finish in his only full season in charge. Replacing him is 38 year old Jimmy Simpson, a former Norwich City player who did the rounds on the Northants non league circuit. He is studying for his UEFA coaching qualification with Northampton Town and has coached Burton junior teams for a number of years. He will be assisted at Latimer Park by Spencer Newcombe, the only remaining member of the previous management team. Jamie Benzie will be coach, stepping up from the Burton youth set up.

Desborough midfielder Tom Mills is the best known arrival at Latimer Park with former Histon man Sam Hearn and ex-Rothwell Town forward Dean Warmisham also signing on. Former Wanderers men Matt Coles, Luke Hearn and Nathan Chapman have also rejoined the club.

Change of name for Saints

For their second season of UCL football St Neots Town Saints will be operating under the expanded name of ‘St Neots Town Youth & Saints’.

The new campaign will see the Saints running with several new faces as several of last season’s regulars have moved on, most notably top scorer Kaine Felix who has been snapped up by Conference North club Boston United on a two year contract.

New faces at the Cozy Stadium are midfielder George Bailey from Stevenage, full back Jack Whittle from Peterborough United, former Corby Town pair, goalkeeper Dan Huff and midfielder Mitchell Taylor, and Eynesbury midfield youngster Lewis Davis.

Joining the management team is former Cambridge United player Jason Webb. He has joined from the St Neots Town junior set up to assist manager Andy Davies.

Potton go for stability

Potton have had a quiet summer with most of last season’s squad returning to The Hollow after the upturn in fortunes last term. Former Royals midfielder Dean Hamilton has rejoined the club from Ickwell while further newcomers are former Kempston front runner Roberto D’Allilia and Huntingdon defender Ash Yeomans.

Joining the backroom staff are Roy Johnson who will be first team physio and James Tizard who will be reserve player coach.

The club’s new floodlight system has recently been installed at The Hollow.

Changes galore for Buckingham

Buckingham manager Chris Robson has been busy recruiting new faces at Manor Fields after his summer appointment.

Star capture is striker Joel McCormick who returns to the Robins after playing in New Zealand for Western Suburbs while another player returning from abroad is midfielder Callum Tychowski who has been playing in the United States for Pensacola City. Drew Mitten was a prolific scorer in the Spartan South Midlands League with Winslow last term and is joined at Manor Fields by former team mate, midfielder Mitch Brent. Midfielder Dave King from Wolverton, strikers Andy Cleere from Mursley and Aman Nti from Stony Stratford and defender Tom Sloan from Nottingham University are other new signings for the Robins. Completing the new faces is goalkeeper Rokas Jasiulevicius from Luton area football.

Robson called on his friend top 100 metre sprinter Darrell Elliott to participate in a Robins training session to pass on tips to improve the players’ sharpness.

Shanks takes Raunds reserve reins

Former Thrapston second string boss John Shanks is back in Reserve Division management, taking over the task of managing last season’s bottom markers Raunds after Paul Clarke opted to step down after half a season running the Kiln Park reserve side. Also joining the Shopmates’ coaching staff is goalkeeper coach John Kyte.

Former Cogenhoe left back Jamie Russell has rejoined the Shopmates who have also signed Irchester duo, defender Joe Chubb and midfielder Luke Rivett. Ex-Wellingborough back four man Ben Ekins is another Raunds recruit along with Desborough defender Shaun Hughes while another defender Matty Harris arrives from Burton Park.

Thrapston have had a low key close season but manager Richard Scott has made a couple of significant attacking signings.

Ben Morgan returns to Chancery Lane after two years with AFC Rushden & Diamonds, while Jason Taylor boasts a wealth of Premier Division experience with Wellingborough.

Also rejoining the club is another forward, Luke Stevens from Raunds while goalkeeper Sammy Cobley has also returned to the fold after ending last season at Kiln Park.

Rothwell Corinthians are another side relying on familiar faces as the new season draws near. Shaun Sparrow has kept faith with the bulk of last year’s squad which enjoyed improved fortunes after his appointment to the helm.

Main signing is Cameron Starsmore who was a prolific scorer for the Harborough second string last term, while returning to Sergeant’s Lawn are Aidan Smith, Dan Cooper and Neil Woolmer, the latter two after lengthy absences from the game through injury.

Luke Smith has been appointed first team coach at Sergeant’s Lawn.

The club is celebrating its’ 80th anniversary this year and to mark the occasion hosted near neighbours Kettering Town in their opening pre season fixture. The Poppies ran out single goal winners as Corinths gave a creditable display.

After a disappointing debut campaign in the league, Peterborough Sports will be hoping for a major upturn in performance in year two.

Joining Sports are Deeping defender Matt Simpson, fellow back four man Harry Jenkins from Whittlesey, wide or front man Dan Fountain who was a high scoring marksman for Netherton last season, and Blackstones midfielder and skipper Andy Boome who made over 300 appearances for his previous club.

Despite the managerial changes made over the summer at Alfred Street, Irchester go into the new campaign with few newcomers on board.

Player-coach Liam Nicell has loads of higher grade experience with the likes of Kettering, Corby, Cambridge City and Rugby, while former Desborough midfielder Shaun Hughes is another Romans recruit.

Switching from Burton Park are ex-Romans central defender Lee Gotch and defender or midfielder Dan Spaughton while Josh Burge, Mitch Blande and Moises Rodrigues all return to the Romans.

The reserves are still looking for a manager after Rob Baldwin decided not to take up the post.

Wakes go for new look

New Bourne manager Raff Mazzarella has quickly made his mark at the Abbey Lawn, bringing a host of new players from his highly successful Peterborough Northern Star reserve squad to the Abbey Lawn. Linking up with the Wakes are defenders Dan Bratcher, Mark Walklin and Dan Wilson, midfielders Joe Bull, Henry Dunn, Jones De Sousa and Sam Wilson, and front men Scott Spearink, Cardin Pierre-Liverpool and Jezz Goldson-Williams.

The reserves put a piece of silverware in the trophy cabinet before the start of the season, two Max Burrell goals and an own goal seeing off Glinton 3-2 as the Wakes won the Bill Mitchelson Memorial Cup match.

Former manager Darren Munton has taken on a new Abbey Lawn role as joint chairman with his former managerial right hand man Steve Elger. The pair replace the long serving Nicki Hawkins who stepped down at the AGM.

Woodford assemble experienced squad

After two seasons of spectacular struggle Woodford look to be set for a major upturn under new manager Adam Knight, who has assembled a squad combining experience and youth.

Joining Knight and assistant Ben Foster in moving from Northants Combination champions Brixworth are seasoned campaigners defenders Ryan Dufty and Jamie Moss, plus midfielder Perry Moore. Recruits from Bugbrooke are goalkeeper Henry Spears, defender Craig Hyde and midfielders Richard Pannell and Jamie Jollands, while defender James Allcock, midfielder Dan Childs and striker Leon Edwards have signed from Long Buckby.

Experienced wide man Tommy Waldock and midfield prospect Jack Wise have joined from Weeden while the manager has raided Midland Combination football to sign Southam front man Martin Thompson and Coventry Alvis midfielder Joss Holford. Completing the new recruits is Gresley full back Sam Woods.

Super Cup appointment for former UCL referee

A former UCL referee has landed a plum pre season appointment as an assistant referee on the UEFA European Super Cup final.

Stuart Burt will officiate in the showpiece encounter between Champions League winners Real Madrid and Europa League kings Seville which will take place at Cardiff’s Millenium Stadium on August 12th.

Hop set to launch season

The 2014-15 season will swing into action with the first ‘Groundhop’ staged by the league over the weekend of 1st to 3rd August.

The Peterborough & District League will also take part in the hop weekend which will see seven matches take place over the two leagues between Friday and Sunday.

Deeping and Harborough start the hectic weekend with a Friday Premier Division encounter at Outgang Road, kick off 7.45 p.m. A league match played on the 1 st August is believed to be the earliest played in the league’s long history!

Saturday is the busiest day of the weekend with two matches in the both the UCL and Peterborough League. Yaxley and Long Buckby get the day underway with a Premier meeting at In2itive Park at 11 a.m. The season’s opening Division One match closes the Saturday programme, Peterborough Sports entertaining Bugbrooke St Michaels at 7.45.

In between there are two Peterborough League encounters, Riverside v Uppingham Town at 1.15 p.m. and Netherton v Thorney at 5 p.m.

The weekend’s final UCL match takes place on Sunday morning when Peterborough Northern Star host Holbeach United in the top flight with an 11 o’clock start, and the hop weekend closes with a Peterborough League fixture between Coates and Oakham United, kick off 2 p.m.

September start for Under 21 division

The league’s new Under 21 division swings into action on Saturday 6th September with six of the nine participating teams in action on the opening day. Two of the fancied teams Kettering Town and Histon are in direct opposition, while Peterborough Sports host AFC Rushden & Diamonds and Biggleswade Town take on AFC Kempston Rovers in a Bedfordshire derby.

The three remaining teams join the fray seven days later with Football CV Reds entertaining Milton Keynes College and Wootton Blue Cross starting with a derby at AFC Kempston.
