Course Description: Math Support curriculum is based on the CAHSEE Blueprint and California academic content standards. The course is organized in modules including the following: 1. Number Sense 2. Algebra and Functions 3. Measurement and Geometry 4. Statistics, Data Analysis and Probability 5. Algebra I The Number Sense Module is the critical piece. All the other strands are built on the basic skills taught in the first module. The math support classroom is designed in order to tailor the curriculum to each student’s needs, so for the first few weeks, students will be working through the Number Sense Module with varied pacing.

Office Hours: Tuesday 3:15- 4:00 p.m. and Thursday 3:15-4:00

Required Text/Materials:  PENCILS are mandatory daily  Three-ring binder with dividers. This binder will be kept in the classroom.  Organization in this class is very important. The binder should be divided into the following sections: Math Notes, Class Activities, Bellwork, Tests/Quizzes  Agenda and Folder for math Homework  Paper, pencils, markers (at least 1 red) and eraser  Books may be checked out periodically for particular assignments

Grading: Grades for this class will be calculated with the following weighting:

Note: It is required that each student bring the required text/materials daily. All work, unless otherwise specified, must be completed in pencil. 90 – 100 % A 50% Assessment (Exams, Quizzes, Projects, etc.) 80 – 89% B 15% Class work 5% Notebook (Class work, Bellwork, Notes Journal, etc.) 70 – 79% C 5% Class Participation (6 points daily) 60 – 69% D - 2 points for a good attitude and active participation - 2 points for completed work 0 – 59 % F - 2 points for agenda and notebook organization 15% Homework 10% Final Exam

Extra Credit will not be given on an individual basis. Ms. de Luna Room E204 [email protected] 858-350-0253 ext. 4164 Assessment: An exam will be given at the end of each unit, approximately every week or two. Each exam will be worth 100 points. Quizzes may, or may not be, announced. They will be worth 10 to 50 points. Projects are being considered for this academic year. They may be a paper, presentation, activity, etc. When projects are assigned, appropriate points will also be assigned. Students may only make up exams if it is an excused absence. Important! Exams may only be made up on the following dates:

March 28 and June 6

Class Work: Students must do all work in pencil or will lose points. Each class block will begin with the students completing a required warm-up exercise. These exercises are meant to develop past concepts and prepare students for the high school exit exam. Every student is expected to take notes for each concept. After the daily lecture, students will complete an in class assignment that often reflects the content of the homework.

Homework: Homework will be assigned daily at the end of each class block. Assignments will be collected the following class meeting before the tardy bell rings. Credit for homework will be given on the basis of completion. All work must be shown to receive full credit. One should complete as much of each problem as possible. Homework assignments will each be worth 6 points. Doing homework on a daily basis is necessary for successful completion of this class; therefore students may be given detention or alternate assignments for not turning in assignments.

Class Participation: Students are expected to pay attention by being an active, positive and contributing member of the classroom community. Poor classroom performance will not be tolerated. Materials such as homework, notebook, textbook, calculator and writing utensils must be brought daily. Students are expected to be in their seat and working on the warm-up when the tardy bell rings. Class participation is worth two points each day: one point for being prepared and beginning the warm up activities and one for participation in class activities. Any pop quizzes will also be included in this grade category.

Absences: Only if a student has an excused absence, will they have an extension on any due dates. Each absence allows a few additional days for the make up assignment. Tests may only be made up on the dates specified. Students with unexcused absences will not be allowed to make up missed assignments and will not receive credit. ALL ABSENCES MUST BE CLEARED TROUGH THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE WITHIN 48 HOURS.

Tardiness: If a student receives 3 unexcused tardies throughout the entire course, they are required to attend one mandatory tutorial the day after the third tardy. Failure to do so may result in additional assignments, time spent after or before class, parent contact, detentions, and referrals.

Cell Phones/Walkman: Use of cell phones and any kind of walkman will not be tolerated during class. Cell phones may not be used as calculators. 1st Offense- confiscated until after class 2nd Offense- confiscated and given to administration 3rd Offense- parent must retrieve item

Cheating: Students are expected to abide by the San Dieguito Union High School District Honesty Code. All cheating will be documented and put in students file.

Help/Support: The math teachers at CCA are committed to student success. Tutorials will be held after school during my office hours or by appointment. Weekly evening sessions will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8 p.m.
