COURSE DESCRIPTION: Naval Science II is an intermediate course, which covers naval history from ancient times to the current war on terror. Other topics include leadership, oceanography, meteorology, astronomy, maritime geography, and physical science. COURSE OBJECTIVES: The NJROTC program provides an opportunity for secondary school students to learn about their personal obligations as American citizens. The basic objectives of the program are to develop leadership, citizenship, self-discipline, character, respect for authority, an interest in the military services, and an understanding of the basic elements and requirements of national security. These objectives are met using the academic curriculum, close order drill (marching), training, physical fitness, uniform inspections, community service, and field trips.

TEXTBOOKS: Naval Science II (Maritime History and Nautical Sciences), Hobbs, 2nd Edition NJROTC Cadet Field Manual (CFM), August 2005 Naval Science II, Hobbs, 4th Edition Note: (Books are provided by the Navy, and lost or damaged books will be replaced at replacement costs.)

POLICIES: Cadets and Parents sign a cadet standards agreement which lists guidelines and policies for cadets. Cadets will also be provided a list of NJROTC Classroom Rules during the first week of class. For other questions cadets should refer to the NJROTC Cadet Field Manual.

Plagiarism is taking someone else's work and passing it off as your own. Because this offense is severe, the penalties are severe. The least consequence is a failing grade on the work. Another possible penalty is referral to the administration for action, or removal from consideration for any future leadership position within the NJROTC Unit. Please do your own work, and you'll never have to worry about these consequences.
