All County Team Selection Process

All County Team Selection Process

Detailed here is the process used in Polk County to select our All-County Team that represents the district at the CAC. This process has been used successfully for nine years.

After each practice round, the host coach sends to the Academic Competitions Office the Score Sheets indicating the points earned by each student. The information is then compiled on each student using a question set with subject area designations as the guide. The results are sent to each coach under cover of FOR YOUR EYES ONLY. In this manner, each coach has the most up-to- date statistics on each team member before the next competition.

A meeting of coaches is held prior to the Polk County High School Academic Tournament to discuss the accumulated statistics from the five practice rounds. The field of A-Team participants is narrowed to 10 to 12 students who are scored during the county tournament.

The designated staff members who serve as the All County Team scorers at the PHSAT keep stats on only these 10 to 12 students. A prepared form is used to indicate the number of 5-, 10-, and 15- point questions answered correctly (+) or incorrectly (-). The AC scorer compiles the totals for these particular students after the first round.

After the first round of the PCHSAT, the coaches meet to discuss the results of the individual scoring from the day’s round. Eight (8) students are named “All-County” and each student receives a plaque after the final round on day two. If eight students cannot clearly be identified at the conclusion of the day one meeting, scoring will be done on designated students during the day two competition. Coaches must meet after the day two competition to select the eight students.

The coach of the winning school is the head coach for the CAC team. That coach has the responsibility of choosing six (6) of the eight students to come to Disney. These six students are each awarded a $500 scholarship from the family of Janis James Colle.
