Page 2 of 9 Overview of the Program

The [INSERT NAME] School Board is pleased to offer an integrated, before- and after-school program for four- and five-year-olds [INCLUDE OLDER CHILDREN WHERE THE BOARD OPERATES A PROGRAM FOR THEM] enrolled in full-day kindergarten [EXPAND THIS SECTION AS NEEDED WHERE THE PROGRAM IS OPERATED FOR PUPILS IN OTHER GRADES].

This program is designed to provide families who require care for their children beyond school hours with a seamless day and provide children with more opportunities to learn and grow.

The integrated before- and after-school program complements what happens during the regular school day. Students remain on the school premises so they are able to stay in a familiar location the whole day.

Staff

Programs before and after school hours are led by early childhood educators (ECEs) who are registered members of the College of Early Childhood Educators.

Program Content

The program content for the before- and after-school program is integrated with what happens during the regular school day. When planning activities for the before- and after-school program, ECEs use the draft Extended-Day Program – Full-Day Early Learning – Kindergarten Program developed by the Ministry of Education, or a similar document such as Early Learning for Every Child Today. The Extended-Day Program complements the play-based curriculum that teachers and ECEs use to plan activities and lessons during the core school day. The program includes a mix of activities including quiet reading time, activities in the gym or outside, and creative play in the classroom [THE BOARD MAY WISH TO INCLUDE OTHER DETAILS SPECIFIC TO ITS PROGRAM].
