Artist Residency Call

Artist Residency Call The Drawing Room

Deadline: Friday 5 August 2016

Oriel Davies invites artists and makers with a background in participatory practice to take up residency in The Drawing Room between 22 October and 25 February 2017. We are seeking proposals from, but not limited to visual, installation and digital artists, performance and live artists, filmmakers, creative writers, illustrators and craft specialists (ceramics, textiles, metalwork etc.) to occupy The Drawing Room and produce a mix of artistic engagement activities for visitors, creative interventions in the space and opportunities for documenting and sharing.

The Drawing Room is a creative, social space, where art, performance, craft and film will be made, shared and inspired.

We want to work in collaboration with artists and the public to create a curiously inviting room assembled from found, collected, customized and bespoke objects; that will inspire a programme of workshops and activities, talks and demonstrations, performance, screenings and happenings. This will be a multi-use space - an artist studio, boutique cinema, stage set, newsroom... A place for ideas, where discussion, learning, creativity and play will be encouraged. A space for hanging out and entertaining friends – Newtown’s living room in an art gallery.

The Drawing Room is part of Open Space, Oriel Davies Gallery’s two-year pilot project that runs from March 2016 to March 2018. In both years, Open Space will present a broad platform of cultural activity from October to January/February, which will run alongside the Gallery's existing exhibition and learning programmes.

Oriel Davies is a contemporary art gallery in the heart of Wales. The largest and most significant visual arts venue in the region and a key gallery of Wales, showing groundbreaking national and international art and craft.

Open Space is funded by Arts Council of Wales and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. www.orieldavies.org/en/exhibition/drawing-room
