Central Dauphin Middle School PTA Meeting Minutes for January 12, 2015

Call to order: Meeting was called to order by Gayle at 7:03 PM

Review and approval of minutes: The Minutes were reviewed. There was a request for any changes or approval. Michele S. made a motion to approve the minutes and Bill M. seconded. Minutes will be filed as presented.

Treasurer’s report: Roxanne E. reviewed our current balance that stands at $21,505.33. She also presented an amended budget for the remainder of the 2014-15 school year. It shows the RFE income and expenses and increased Technology line. The amended budget will be posted for review and voted on at the February PTA meeting. There was also discussion regarding the PTA assisting with the Gertrude Hawk fundraiser to allow the purchase of a new outdoor sign.

Correspondence (Secretary’s report): a holiday card and teacher thank you card were shared.

Committee reports Assemblies: Diane S., Chair: no report. Next assembly is in May. Box Top for Education: Pamela A., Chair. We will be mailing our next box tops in at the end of February. Please remember to send the Box Tops in to school. The check for $238.50 was received. Dance/Socials: Anne F., Chair, The next PTA social will be held on Friday, January 30th. Mrs. Cather has offered to have a group of cast members from “Bye Bye Birdie” perform at the social. PTA will provide chaperones. The social will have a 50s theme. Mrs. Cather will be giving away musical tickets. The cost to enter the social will be $2.00 per student. Snacks will be offered for a minimal fee. The social will again have a photo booth and karaoke. Eighth Grade Send Off: Sharrel V. & Jane B., Co-Chairs. The committee had their first meeting on Thursday, January 8. Parents are considering various activities. Ideas will be brought to the committee for review and will be presented to Mr. Matzner for approval. Five Below Fundraiser: Jean K, Chair. Thank you to those who participated in the CDMS PTA fundraiser at Five Below in December. $109.38 was raised to support PTA programs. The next Five Below Fundraiser will be on March 28 & 29th, just in time for Easter baskets. Hersheypark: Dena C., Chair. Volunteer opportunities will not be available until spring when the park reopens. Dena will be working with the Park to offer opportunities to volunteer. Hospitality: Tammy B., Chair. The committee will be providing treats close to Valentine’s Day. They will also be assisting with coordinating for the 7th grade symposium in January. Legislative/PAC: Susan J., Chair. Dr. Johnson presented the “PA School Performance Profile” power point to provide further understanding of the school performance profiles. Anyone interested in viewing the power point can do so by going to cdschools.org. It is under the Parent’s link, Parent Advisory Committee, Minutes and then November, 2014. The next meeting is January 29th. Membership: Julie W., Chair. No report. Ram’s Make a Difference: Jamie Z. and Nancy W., Co-Chair. The 8th graders participated in making craft bags on Friday, January 9. Over 100 students participated. Upcoming dates: 7th grade 2/20 and 6th grade 3/23. Reflections: Bill M., Chair. December 17th was the awards ceremony. It was well attended. Gayle and Mrs. Batdorf assisted with handing out the awards. CDMS had 12 students move on to the Regional level. The results are not yet in. The possibility of an after school art program was discussed. There is grant money available. School Spirit Wear: Jackie W., Chair. No report. Scholarship Committee: Jean K., Chair. The scholarship applications are now available on the CDMS PTA website. Complete applications are due April 10, 2015. Please encourage any graduating senior who attended CDMS to apply.

New Business: Please remember to go on-line to purchase your student’s yearbook.

Principal Report: Mr. Matzner reported that the PSSA dates will be identified in the Principal’s Newsletter. English/language arts testing will be administered Monday through Thursday. Math testing will be administered during another week on Monday through Thursday, along with writing and science for 8th grade.

January 19th- No School January 23rd – 2 hour delay January 28th – 8th grade course selection at CDHS January 30th – Winter Social February 9th –PTA meeting February 16th – Presidents’ Day – School Closed
