A RESOLUTION Honoring Major League Baseball Umpire Sam Holbrook

A RESOLUTION honoring Major League Baseball umpire Sam Holbrook. WHEREAS, born in 1965, Sam Holbrook is a native son of the Commonwealth. He attended Breckinridge Training School and then graduated from Rowan County Senior High School in 1983 and from Eastern Kentucky University in 1987. He still resides in his home state; and WHEREAS, Mr. Holbrook became a Major League Baseball umpire in 1998. In his exemplary career, he has umpired such classic contests as the 2004 All-Star Game, the 2005 Division Series, the 2007 Division Series, and the 2008 American League Championship Series. The grand achievement of his professional career came in 2010, when he walked onto the field at the Fall Classic and umpired the World Series between the Texas Rangers and the San Francisco Giants; and WHEREAS, prior to his Major League career, Mr. Holbrook umpired in the Appalachian League, the Midwest League, the Carolina League, the Texas League, and the Eastern League. He has devoted a lifetime to the perfection of his profession and to the sport he so dearly loves, and his presence in the game as both an umpire and a spokesperson for Major League Baseball deserves recognition from this Honorable Body; and WHEREAS, Mr. Holbrook, along with his wife, Susie, and his children, Adam and Amy, have been examples of the perseverance and unbreakable spirit of the most successful Kentuckians. This Body commends Mr. Holbrook for his passion for, and service to America's Grand Old Game; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate thanks Sam Holbrook for his years of dedication to Major League Baseball and for his outstanding career as a Major League umpire, and commends him for representing the Commonwealth with the highest integrity and

professionalism.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Sam Holbrook.
