Entry-level Drilling and Completion Engineers (Horizons Program) work as Drill Site Managers for on-site drilling operations including exploratory wells, development wells and significant work over operations on producing wells. After two to three years of experience, these engineers will move into the office and work as a drilling engineer, planning wells and/or managing rig operations or as a completions engineer. Typical responsibilities for drilling engineering include: cost estimation, bit and drill string design, casing and cement design, and mud program design. Typical responsibilities for completions engineering include: cost estimation, well completion design including fracture or sand control design, well completion fluid recommendation, production tubing string design and effective nodal analysis, including understanding the integrated production system to effectively optimize production.

Accelerated Development Program (ADP) (Adjusted Horizons Program) Drilling Engineers participate in a ~5 year training program, starting at time of hire, designed to develop and enhance desired skill sets by accelerating the participant’s exposure to technical training and related field operations by seconding these participants to certain business partners like Transocean, Schlumberger and Halliburton for the first 2 years of their career. This assignment is then followed by ~3 years working in a Chevron Business Unit as a Drill Site Manager (DSM) trainee and office-based drilling or completion engineer trainee. These ADP participants are then expected to effectively work on any well drilling, completion or remedial project(s) that is considered non-complex, as a Drilling Engineer or Completion Engineer.

Opportunities to transfer to overseas locations usually begin after five years of experience. Opportunities for engineers on the Horizons Program may exist to transfer to other engineering jobs at Chevron such as those in the petroleum engineering or facility engineering function. Engineers on the Accelerated Development Program (ADP) are expected to continue their careers in the Drilling and Completion function at the conclusion of this program. Mobility is encouraged as there are many opportunities for Chevron engineers to work in a variety of assignments at different locations, both domestic and international.

Required Qualifications:  Students completing the last year of the requirements for their Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate degree in Petroleum, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or individuals with a Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate degree in Petroleum, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree with less than 2 years of directly related work experience.  GPA - 2.5 or above  Strong academic performance in core programs, communication, leadership, teamwork and problem-solving skills are of extreme importance.
