A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor of Joel Pett upon being the recipient of the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning. WHEREAS, Joel Pett, the Lexington Herald-Leader's Editorial Cartoonist, became the recipient of the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning on April 10, 2000; and WHEREAS, this very deserving satirist and outstanding cartoonist's Pulitzer entry consisted of 20 cartoons drawn in 1999, ten on national issues and ten on local issues, with topics ranging from health to gun control to school violence; and WHEREAS, Joel Pett's genius in creating editorial cartoons has awakened the public conscience in the Commonwealth of Kentucky since 1984, when he became the Lexington Herald-Leader's Editorial Cartoonist, and his drawings have been reprinted in many leading newspapers and magazines; and WHEREAS, Joel Pett was also the recipient of a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award in 1999 for cartoons exploring problems of the disadvantaged; he received a Global Media Award for his cartoons about population issues in 1995; and he was president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists in 1999; NOW, THEREFORE, Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky: Section 1. The Senate congratulates Joel Pett upon being the recipient of the 2000

Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning, and we express our praise and admiration to him for the sensitive issues he has illustrated through the years. We wish to him success in all future endeavors. Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Joel Pett upon being the recipient of the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for editorial cartooning. Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Joel Pett, Lexington Herald-Leader, 100 Midland Avenue, Lexington, Kentucky 40508.
