Course Description: Financial, managerial, auditing, taxation, and regulatory accounting issues and practices for multinational companies domiciled inside and outside the United States.
Course Prerequisite(s): Successful completion of Accounting 202 (and Senior Standing or Instructor’s Consent). All students majoring in Accounting must earn at least a “C” in this course.

Student Learning Outcomes/Course Objectives/Course Topics: Develop a functional knowledge of international issues and practices with respect to:
1. Financial Reporting Diversity 2. Foreign Currency Transactions and Hedging 3. Translation of Foreign Currency Financial Statements 4. Strategic, Regulatory, Governance and Sustainability Considerations

Attendance Requirements: Regular attendance is required in this course. The class attendance policy as stated in the 2014-2015 Louisiana Tech University Bulletin will be followed. Class Continuance During Emergency Closure of the University: In the unlikely occurrence of a major natural disaster or other catastrophic event, we will continue to conduct class via Moodle. You will need to find a location where you have computer access, and we will continue with our class though this media. You may need to go directly to Moodle’s off campus website (URL is http://moodle.latech. edu) should TECH’s system become inoperative. Moodle has considerable redundancy and should maintain its functionality.
Homework: The material covered in this course is cumulative and of a technical, analytical nature. To learn the material adequately the student must study consistently—giving full attention to what is being studied. Homework is an essential part of the learning process. Students should complete worksheet assignments using Excel.
Resources: Textbook: International Accounting, 3rd (or 4th) Edition, Doupnik and Perera (McGraw-Hill Irwi n) 2012 (or 2015); outside reading and research may be required.
Moodle: The syllabus, assignment sheet and other class information will be available on Moodle.
Grade Information (200 total points)
Scale: 90-100 % A; 80-89 % B; 70-79 % C; 60-69 % D; and Below 60% F
Grade: Five exams @ 40 points each = 200 total points; information concerning exam content and format will be provided on Moodle on a timely basis for each exam. NO NOTES, TEXTS, ETC. ARE ALLOWED.
Oral Communications: One (Powerpoint) presentation @ 10 points (topic to be approved in advance by instructor)—see Moodle for additional information. Presentation points earned will be included in your Final Exam grade.
Written Communications: At least 10% of your final grade will be determined from written communications (College of Business requirement). This will be primarily in the form of essay questions on the Final Exam.
Final Exam Essay Questions (Participative Learning/Group Project): During the latter portion of each class, you (and/or your group) will be provided with time to develop your answers to essay questions possibly appearing on the Final Exam. You (and/or your group) may wish to work in the computer lab instead of remaining in the classroom. Please do not ask me to “pre-approve” your answers to the essay questions. However, you may seek the advice of other individuals not enrolled in the course. (Additional information will be posted on Moodle on a timely basis.)
Exams: Exams II, III and IV are cumulative and the Final Exam (a.k.a., Exam V) is comprehensive. You must bri ng your TECH Student Picture ID Cards to each of the five exams as well as the days that I “go over” the graded ex ams.
Make-Up Exams: If you miss EXAM I or Exam IV (but not both EXAM I and EXAM IV), then the average of your other exam scores will be substituted for your missing exam score. If you miss both EXAM I and EXAM IV, then you must take a Comprehensive Make-Up Exam at the end of the quarter (time an d date to be determined by instructor). Similarly, if you miss Exam II and/or Exam III and/or the Final Exam, then you must take a Comprehensive Make-Up Exam at the end of the quarter (time and date to be determined by instructor). If you miss more than (any) two exams, then you will receive an “F” in A CCT 485. There are no “drop exams” (etc.). Note: The number of points assigned to the Comprehens ive Exam will vary proportionately with the number of exams missed. Additionally, the content and for mat of the Comprehensive Exam may vary with the particular exam(s) missed by a particular student.
NOTE: “In the event of a question regarding an exam grade or final grade, it will be the responsibility of the student to retain and present graded materials which have been returned for student possession during the quarter.”
