7 Habits For Successful Homework
Be Proactive: You are in charge! Read the weekly note sent home every Monday and plan for each assignment. Set up a time and place to work. Stay organized by keeping everything together in the folder until it is turned in. The End In Mind: Follow the plan! Homework is due Friday. I would like you to have your weekends free. (If you need to have it over the weekend it is due on Monday morning). Don’t wait until the last minute and end up doing it all in one day. Put First Things First: Work first, then play. Homework should take only 20 minutes for second graders. Have them work on it and then you check over it to be sure it is correct. If there is time for video games/T.V.., there is time for homework. Think Win-Win: Everyone can win! This should be a fun time to work with your child. Give lots of praise for their hard work. Plan for something fun to do when you have completed the work. Seek First To Understand: Listen before you talk! Read over the directions to be sure they understand what they should do. Some students need more help from you. Others need to be encouraged to go above and beyond. I do go over the assignments at school to clarify anything that might be tricky. Email me early if you have a question. Synergize: Together is better! Many projects can be family projects. Look over their work together before returning it. Help your child evaluate his/her own work to see if it is their best work. Sharpen The Saw: Balance feels best! Sports and family activities are important, that is why I like to have homework due on Friday and weekend free to enjoy family time.
