2 2 JOB DESCRIPTION The post holder will support Social Work Scotland’s dual role in influencing and advising on legislation and policy development and supporting the development of the social work workforce. The post holder will give the organisation additional capacity to contribute to policy formation, take forward workforce development issues at both practitioner and leadership levels and ensure good links are made to other parts of the public sector reform agenda.

The post holder will also support the Scottish Government by providing professional support and advice to the Justice Directorate.

Key activities:

1. Develop a work plan for the length of the secondment that will support Social Work Scotland to develop professional positons on key issues.

2. Provide professional advice to Scottish Government and SPS.

3. Lead the review of the national CJSW standards, working with relevant policy areas in the Scottish Government.

4. Develop a conference programme for a national conference for criminal justice social workers.

5. Support the development of the Social Work Scotland Standing Committee to be a strategic space for key debates and conversation about the future role of social work in the reform of penal policy

6. Provide briefings for Social Work Scotland officer bearers to speak at key events.

7. Attend key working groups and meetings on behalf of Social Work Scotland presenting the social work view and feeding back to members.

8. Join up the criminal justice social work agenda with key developments in other social work areas and with the ongoing public sector reform agenda.

9. Be a credible voice for the social work profession in the development of Community Justice Scotland.

10. Develop strategic relationships and planning with regards to proposed role of community justice Scotland / Social work Scotland and SPS.

Qualifications and Experience Qualified and registered social worker. X Experienced in working in a criminal justice service X

Leadership Significant experience of leading and influencing policy change and X development. Experience of working on National projects and / or working in X groups.

Context Knowledge of major legislative and other issues within criminal justice X social work.

Relationships Experience of successful partnership working and networking with key X stakeholders e.g. people, voluntary sector, local government and public agencies.

Ability to create networks for peer support. X

Communication High level of written and verbal communication and an understanding X of how to communicate complex messages to a varied audience.

Working style A self-starter with the ability to work in a small team of people on a X national agenda. Comfortable managing multiple demands from multiple sources and X prioritising. Experience of work planning and developing and using achievable X work plans. Proficient in the use of Word Excel and Outlook and able to manage X own administration.
