REGULAR SESSION OF THE WCHS SBDM COUNCIL September 15, 2014 5:45 p.m. WCHS Room 113, Versailles, KY

Meeting began at 5:45 pm. Present: Rob Akers, Jennifer Forgy, Susan Carey, Patty Dawson, Alvin Flowers, David Graves, Chapie Mastin, Chuck Mix , Rob Stomberg, Scott Hundley, Ms. Morford Absent: Ms. Sandman Guest: Ms. Joyner Item Agenda Topic Presenter Item # 1. Adoption of Agenda R. Akers Mr. Akers welcomed the committee and advised that the KPREP data would be discussed at the next meeting. Agenda adopted by consensus. 2. Adoption of Minutes R. Akers Adopted by consensus. August 18, 2014 3. Public Participation N/A

4. English and Math Dept Ms. Joyner Ms. Joyner presented a handout for review. She advised that the most recent test taken was the Update and Mr. STAR which replaced the MAP test. She said the Mastin Senior numbers were not an accurate number since not all Seniors were tested. They are trying to achieve 80%. Tutoring is being offered before and after school and homework club is meeting once a week. Mr. Akers discussed STAR and indicated that 80% was a solid number and that they will target 40% and above for intervention. Ms. Joyner said that any below the benchmark are taking classes for additional help. They will soon be using the new Read 180 program. Mr. Akers added that we currently have 130 licenses to run this intervention program for reading. Ms. Joyner said that there was a slight decrease in English and Reading scores and they will continue to work hard on increasing these skills. The 10th grade EOC from this past year showed a reduction in novice and an increase in distinguished especially in the gap areas. They will continue working on a writing plan and will work with staff to develop one rubric to be used in all classes. More teachers are using Googledrive and Googledoc. Ms. Dawson expressed concern that others can see a students feedback. Ms. Joyner said that is a concern that she will troubleshoot to see if that can be corrected. Mr. Mastin provided a handout for the Math Department. He said the EOC showed a decrease in Novice, a gain in proficient and a slight decrease in distinguished. The ACT scores in Math saw a slight decrease from 21.0 in 2012-2013 to 20.81 in 2013-2014. 5. KPREP Process R. Akers Will be discussed at next meeting. Review/Assessment Update 6. Block Update R. Akers Ms. Sandman had advised that she had heard that parents were concerned that the 90 minute block was too long for students. Mr. Akers said that now that the students are settled in that they seem to like it. Mr. Flowers indicated that it is challenging though going from 120 students to 180 students and Ms. Morford added that it is a struggle to find a balance on in class work, homework time, etc. Mr. Graves also added that the classes are large and really full. Mr. Akers said that they will have to review and learn from this year to make some adjustments for next year. 7. Intervention Program R. Akers Mr. Hundley discussed the intervention programs that are in place. He said that STAR is very useful Update and shows students what they can work on. The students really seem to like it. He also said that they are doing a daily ACT bell ringer, times tables and working on other skills daily. Mr. Akers added that the MAP test was not a good fit and that STAR is really providing more useful information. 8. Adjourn R. Akers Faithfully Submitted, Cindy Patterson
